I'm surprised Sukhi Khosla hasn't done it, although he's close at 3:45 1500. In HS it seemed inevitable that he would get it, but he seems to be struggling a bit at OSU. Anyone know what his story is?

...but he succumbed to subcultural pressures to not excel athletically (Moonyism). Very Asian.

YSL coulda done it eventually!! 9:00 and 14:27 as a SOPH!

It looks like Sukhi Khosla has the best chance of becoming the first to do it. I thought he would definitely do it a few years ago when he ran 4:05 in high school.

It's an interesting question because one could say that there are four "main" ethnic groups in the US, the four biggest being white American, black American, Hispanic American, and Asian-American.

What qualifies in your eyes as Asian-American? Do they have to be 100% asian or can they be half, quarter, etc?

I know a guy on my team who is half Asian and ran 1:50 this year so maybe he could do it in the next year or two (that converts to around 4:04 I think)

I'll always remember him and Cabral rocking the 5k at IC4as as freshman. I think Leung was in the slowheat and ran 1415 pushing it all by himself and Cabral ran 140 in the fast heat.
Leung was upset as that wasn't fast enough to make it to NCAAs. Even though I coached his rival coach I went up to him and told him to cheer up as i was super impressed.
He was having none of it. Said it wasn't good enough and that he was going to turn princeton into a distance power.
I remember thinking to myself, "My history with Princeton only dates to 1992 but I know every star recruit since then has been saing the same thing." But darn if he wasn't right. He and Cabral made them good.
Now my memory is hazy. The convo above might have been with Cabral or maybe both of them. But I just remember thinking "a) they are good and young and b) super motivated."
