Who Are Your Biggest Positive Surprise at NCAAs?

I think Allie Buchalski's 7th place finish qualifies for mention on this thread.

Lusignan's PBs are even slower than Bruce's

He beat plenty of guys who do mile repeats faster than his mile PB. 121 HS boys ran faster than Lusignan's mile PB last year.

Why I say that he's not as much of a surprise as Bruce is because Lusignan has run 14:13 for 5000m and sub 30 for 10000m. Furthermore, he did not run track last year, so these PBs are from 2014 and he did have a better XC season than Bruce this year.

That being said, he's still the second biggest surprise in the top 25.

Hassan is bad-ass and the G-Man is a good coach. Dude broke the school 8k/10k(grass and track) in the same meet!

Lusignan was 12th in 2013 before getting injured in 2014 so a little bit less of a surprise.

I've got to say UW finishing 8th as a team (best team finish since 93) was a big surprise considering Tyler King absolutely bombed. Yes, they had an incredible day at regionals but I was really impressed they ran as well as they did yesterday, especially without King.

Wait a second, Flotrack didn't have Lusignan in their top 40 either!!!!

Still I'm wondering who your second biggest surprise is (assuming that you agree that Bruce is the biggest surprise)

2-5 for the Syracuse men.

Who was the last female to win the 10k outdoors and come back the following fall to win the ncaa championship in the 6k? Seems to me it favors milers rather than endurance animals on the track; therefore, Seidel winning is a great performance.

My biggest surprise would be Ok State. Wisconsin and the Cowboys are headed down.

Lusignan's PR's come from 2013 actually, when he was a true sophomore. 14:13 and 29:40 as a sophomore.

I was surprised at these four guys running negative times for the split leading up to 5k. Did they all take a short cut?

did anyone else see the "negative' splits of these four guys (including the Ole Miss runner) up to the 5k mark?

125 Sergey Suchchickh (UCLA 15:46.2 - 5:23.0 up 126 places

181. George Yator (Louisville) 15:57.9 -5:31.2 up 73 places

196. Robert Domanic (Ole Miss) 16:02.6 -5:25.4 up 57 places

My biggest positive surprise was seeing the tremendous class that an obviously disappointed Colorado team showed in patiently waiting to shake Syracuse hands after the result. Those young men have learned more than just how to win and run fast. In a time when self-absorption tends to be the norm, their sportsmanship was impressive and worthy of respect.

And this observation is coming from a Syracuse alum.

The UCLA men had a pretty good day, ending up 14th when they were ranked 28th coming into the race.

Maybe not that big of a notice given how the women's race was, but since I follow the Ivy League, I was pleasantly surprised by sophomore Natalie Schudrowitz (Brown) - she was 12th at the Ivy League, 4th at the NE Regionals going into this race. She ended up 23rd overall, #2 NE runner in the race, #1 Ivy runner in the race. Great race for her. The whole Brown team really seemed to have their best races in November (they were a surprise 3rd at NE Regionals) and Schudrowitz just continued the trend.

Another shout out to Awad. He had a slow start to the season but he really came into form in his last three races. I think having the rest of the Penn team there at NCAAs really helped him out. Whenever I talked to the guy, he always seemed to be more focused on the team achievements than his personal ones.

Probably missed the 2k split mat since they amount to places 251, 252, 253, 254. Which is probably the default for missing a split mat.
