because this whole training in flats thing is realatively new for most (no more than a year at least) it is hard to tell if racing has been improved. Plus, a lot of other factors are thrown into the mix, obviously training. Personally, I have been running in flats for a mere month now. Used to run in lightweight trainers and orthotics, now in the adidas cubato plus. My arches are sore occasionally, and where I used to have PF is sore, but sore in the way when you feel something getting stronger, not sore in the injured/fatigued way. It has been interesting thus far, just ice and stretch a lot. My lower calves and ankles have also felt much more flexible, and I feel myself landing under my hips more so than in front of my body (as I did in trainers). It is not a comfortable transition, much like going from never lifting weights to all the sudden bench pressing 5 times a week would feel, but you feel the results on thier way. I am running a marathon in 6 months, my primary reason for switching to flats, besides the fact that all the injuries i have had in the past two years have been in my feet, and want to run in the shoes I will race 26.2 in, makes sense if you think about it. give it a go, don't spend the next six months of training wondering, do it now!
