THE RACE WAS ABOUT 15 SECONDS LONG OF 15K. Why are people comparing it to a distance that is about 1k longer? Compare it to the 15k AR not the 10 mi.
Because the 10 mile record was run on the Cherry Blossom course. People are wondering if he could have broken it if the course was not shortened due to an accident.

I think people are comparing it to 10M because that was the original race distance. But I agree - we shouldn't be projecting 10M times, but rather 15K times.

Cherry Blossom said they would pay a $10,000 bonus if Riley (or any American) broke the American 10 mile record. When the reroute happened and they thought that the runners ran 9.54, they projected that he would have broken the record so were going to pay him - not penalizing him for having to run short.
After the reroute, the conversion shows him short of the record so I assume he is not getting the bonus
No bonuses will be paid.
