On Thursday, we received the following email which included a guaranteed Millrose win for one athlete. The email was right on the money. I ran great. Move forward to **Name Redacted**. He was dating track hottie **Name Redacted** (come on guys we need more track TMZ). This was obvious via some instagram posts and such. Over winter it seems they have broken up. **Name Redacted** was even seen subtweeting (look it up) on Twitter about it. Since then he has set the track on fire. He has a clear mind, he's focused, and about the win the Millrose Games because of it. Trust me.[/quote] For the record, this email's prediction was right on the money. When LetsRun.com co-founder Robert Johnson was coaching at Cornell, the conclusion that he and many coaches came to was college-aged males did best when they were on the prowl (recently broken up apply he guesses, unless the guy was totally devastated). College-aged women were the opposite - they did better when they were in a relationship. So if there was a courting process between a guy on the team and a woman on the team, the men's and women's coaches both benefited - just at different times. The men's coach benfited until it became a relationship - the women's coach afterwards. Is this total BS or an important part of coaching psychology? Let us know what you think.

I'll admit when I first read this I though it was BS until I thought about my years of running in college and it seemed to make perfect sense! The best year of my collegiate running career perfectly coincides with with the breakup of my long term girlfriend. Ran all my PRs junior year right after we broke up.

Meanwhile, the girlfriend ran horribly after the breakup going from top 3 on the team to bottom half before being injured the rest of the year.

Started dating a girl senior year and my performances declined never approaching my single, junior year PRs again. How I wish I could go back with this newfound magical knowledge now...

I have set lifetime PRs while in good relationship and while being on the prowl.

I have found no correlation for myself.

My 800m PR (1:49) happened while I was dating a nice girl and had sex the day before the race.

My 1500m PR (3:42) happened while I hadn't dated anyone or even had sex in over a year.

No PRs after a recent break up.

For me, I ran better with a gf. If I was in chase mode then I was out late, drinking, partying, doing things that do not allow me to "live like a clock."

Definitely true for me. Running was always about proving something and with the adoring girlfriend, I have to admit there was less to prove or need to put on a show. What's the point? You know you are going to get laid regardless and no need to impress anyone else if you have no chance of sleeping with them. Pretty simple really.

One caveat is having the crazy hot girlfriend, who you are not entirely sure is not hooking up with other guys. I had one short stretch of PRs in college where I had the superhot whack-job girl and still motivated to be alpha all the time. But the crazy catches up to you at some point and is too tiring to keep running well.
