Ridiculous. Can you honestly say you believe an athlete is "holding back" in a world record race? Because if so, I suggest your thought process is conforming to the standards of a mental hospital. A world class athlete may have just one chance ever to run his PR (reference Goucher's 13:11, which he has since never again approached, or countless other athletes who ran huge PR's, expecting more in the next few years, and never ran faster). So the entire question is utterly and totally ridiculous.

Just because you own the world record does not make you the best of all time in that event. When Bekele's career stacks up against Geb's then he could be considered "best of all time." And when he takes similar proportional amounts of time off of the old records.
