2:35 female trying to run 2:30

IDK who the OP is, but if she is the Hawaii girl, I'd recommend staying put in Hawaii. The trails and running out there are much better than in the continental US. Here, unless you choose to live in Florida, the deep deep south, or Southern California, you have to deal with winter, which in addition to being absolutely miserable, will hamper your training. Of the listed coaches, only Steve Magness is at a place where winter is ideal for running. The effect of altitude is greatly overexaggerated. Boulder, Flag, and Mammoth are good for their running communities and its the having people to train with and share a lifestyle with, not the thinner air that really leads to improvements.

Considering how many runners in their mid/late-20s (including on this board) we KNOW are subsidized by their parents, this is pretty laughable. At least the OP is describing an adult relationship and not being 25 and sponging off dad like half the posters here openly say they are.

For all you know, the OP has two kids in part-time daycare and looks after the house and kids when she's not squeezing in a run. And whatever the situation, why do you care? Jealous that you don't make enough to support a hot runner pursuing her dreams? (Because 2:3x for a woman is HOT.)

A couple can run a household any way they want. When we moved for my job my wife quit a high-level position and now does modeling part time and mostly works out. I'm not complaining :)

This doesn't make sense. I was a 3h30 Runner in 2008, a 2h59 runner in 2010, a 2h54 in 2011 and now in 2014 I am a 2h34. There are no reasons why a 2h59 runner could not become a 2h30 runner with discipline and years of buildup (ok you might add some talent and luck to not get hurt).

Exactly. Further, if she's like many people, she slightly but not significantly altered her PR to give a little more anonymity. Like she could have run a 2:34 or 2:36.

I won the Far Hills NJ 15 km. Herb Lindsey won and beat Lasse Viren. Bob Bright was the race director. I won. Lorraine Moller, Marty Cooksey, Anne Sullivan were in the field. The race ended up in Sports Illustrated.

She ran before her shift at the running store and after; training was all-consuming. There was no time to worry about past problems or future consequences, only the next workout. She was on a 10-day cycle—a week was too short to fit everything in— of repeat miles on Tuesday, long run, medium run, fartlek, hills, track, another track workout—relentlessly.

Almost every day was a double, and she rarely had days off.

Dillon recalls those bohemian days, living out of a suitcase, getting in the run one way or another. The hard work was all-encompassing, but it fed her self-esteem. She couldn’t get enough, running and racing hungrily—she was affecting her destiny.
