Hasay didn't take time off after NCAA's, despite being tired after a rigorous running schedule at Oregon. She jumped right into professional running and represented USA in the World championships. Since January 2014, she has set 16 PR's. She's doing quite well - progressing very nicely. Can't wait to see what she does this upcoming year.
Abby taking the entire summer off, then coming back to race this late in the year is strange. Makes you wonder what's going on there.

Good point. Another solid option would have been to join her NB team mates in Boulder and train at altitude under Wetmore.

Um New Balance signed Natosha Rogers and she has since relocated up to the Boston area. I think Abbey has a training partner.

I think she would have been better off joining Mary Cain and Hasay at NOP or at least getting a new coach.

Right, and it was barely faster than she ran solo at the Stanford Invitational in March of 2010 while still in college. Her 5000 PR was from 2010, shortly after college. She seemed on a lot better path than on 31:12 PR and she hasn't performed close to that level since 2012.
The city of Boston as well as the majority of Massachusetts is a disgusting area. The people are nasty and cold. Many residents never realize this because they grew up there and they've hardly been anywhere else. If and when they do go elsewhere, it's maybe a 2 day trip to Martha's Vineyard, the cape, Gloucester...or maybe Springfield, Worcester, Saugus, Lynn, Lowell or some other shit area with 5 Dunkin Donuts and maybe a few Mobil stations where you can take a piss and play the lotto. All of that while you dodge about 20 potholes to get to a Dunx.
You'll notice that there is a lot of bitterness and negativity people carry around. And a lot of drama and rumors spread. Parents of kids get jealous easily of their neighborhood kids and seem to have a chip on their shoulder.
For most young adults a typical night in MA is visiting places like Lynn, Lowell or Saugus to go do some lines of white and pound light beers and pretend to be cool and talk trash about people behind their backs. Maybe then go to a Friendly's diner the next day and have a few greasy hot dogs for lunch getting through that hangover and then some more beers getting ready to watch the Red Sux or Pats the following afternoon/evening.
You'll notice that there is a lot of bitterness and negativity people have. And a lot of drama and rumors spread.
Why the F any elite training group would be formed there is beyond me.
Natosha Rogers probably didn't have any options with how her collegiate career ended, but how did Cory McGee end up tied to this group? They pull Coogs out of the bar to coach D'Agostino makes some sense, but a super low mileage speed woman like Cory M makes none.
New Balance seems to let their athletes go where they feel best (Connelly with boyfriend out in Cali, Simpson/Coburn with Wetmore, Brown with husband, Martinez with Vigil, steepler Garcia/Bush with Gary, etc).
Did they insist Cory be coached by Coogs? She didn't have a super senior year, but made Worlds her junior year in college. Thought that would be enough to make it so she could choose.

if your exposure to boston was purely lowell, saugus, etc, then i can see why you didn't like it.
that does though bring up the question, why did you hang out in those places?
there are lots of much nicer areas of boston. cambridge, somerville, belmont, newton, back bay, beacon hill, etc are all nice areas. not to mention the westons, wellesley, concord, lexington, areas.
when you hang out in shitty areas, its shitty. don't do that.
as for a running community, we have a great running crowd. besides that pesky race in april each year, there are tons of great 5k, 10k, HMs, etc year around. great trails, lots of runners. nice club scene.
come back to boston, try it again, don't stay in bad areas. you'll like it.
