I am a woman and I don't like shopping and I don't like, if someone asks my opinion to buy shirts.
My choice would be getting something to eat from a man, like sweets candie or pastry or even fruits. It is nice to get something, it don't have to be expensive. But no toys, only eatable things. Even some tomatoes would be nice present, like small cherry tomatoes. They test good too. I don't like flowers, so I would be disappointed to get flowers. I don't want to collect usless things like toyes or small things to my home or even candle, no thanks.

My choice will be also clean and fresh man. Not too much perfume, but have to smell good. Clean clothes.
I would like, if man will drive me to somewhere nature to walk. No hiking or running or hard sport exercises first time. In my case man can be in bad situation, because I am fit and I can be fitter then he is. I would not like, if man take me somewhere with public transportation. I would not like, if we go out to eat and I have to pay for my bill. Then I will be polite, but this will be the only date with this man.
It is so sexy, if to sit in the car first time and feel the man's fresh smell. Be sure, your car is clean too and not discussing dirty.
If I like the smell of the man and I am in romantic mood, I would like to hold hand as soon as possible. I would like to feel, how he hugs me.
Women are different. What is good to one, is not good to another.
If you buy her sweets, you have to know, does she eats sweets or fruits at all.
If you invite her to do some sport with you, she have to wear proper clothes.
Why not just skip the date and get a good beat in?

I would love a rock climbing first date! It takes the pressure off of having to look good and think up stuff to say. Anything that is focused on an activity will give you a much better idea of whether you are compatible or not.
I took my current gf outdoor bouldering on our first date. She loved it. Indoor climbing is great too, it will definitely help loosen you both up. After climbing you can go get coffee, lunch whatever and you will have the climbing to talk about and it will hopefully segue into different conversation and less awkwardness.
I disagree with the people who are saying have nothing planned. From my experience (not saying this is the end all be all), women tend to find it nice when the person they are going on a date with have a plan in mind. Even if it is a loose plan, having at least that first step planned out will work much better in your favor.

I would like to do all kind of sport activities, but not all women are like this. Even invitation to gym class would be fun to do together. But you have to know, what that girl like. Some woman don't like sport at all and for them best first date would be all day in shopping mall.
Buying wine together? This is not for me, because I don't drink at all.
Why don't you take her to nice hotel room date? Why to waste so much time?
Go to a hip part of town where there are plenty of eating options. Eat dinner at a reasonable restaurant. Get dessert at another place close by. Get drinks at a bar afterwards.
More casual?
Invite her to get dessert at a great dessert joint. Ask her afterwards if she'd like to grab drinks somewhere else that you have picked out. If she doesn't, you're out of a bad date after just a quick dessert, if she does want to get drinks, you know she's at least mildly interested.
