So chances are he was on meds because of the surgery and when they tested him something he'd taken was banned.

The athletes like Wallace can't win. The ones that have the money to get the stuff that's actually making them stronger and faster and that can't get detected are the ones who are really winning.

-you certainly didn't hear it from me. likely someone else just noticed and pointed out the obvious. being around Fayetteville for as long as I have, you see things. you hear things. the kid has the pedigree and body style/form to be SIGNIFICANTLY better than he has been. he's far past the point now, however. his best days are squandered behind him. he was world class, despite being a sluggard- that should tell you something. his ceiling was unlimited at one time.

This isn't helping me 'cause how much faster than 9.96 / 19.65 / 45.22 do you think a guy with an "unlimited ceiling" should have been able to go?

Ha. "Lucky to have bronze" seems to think that Spearmon, were he not a lazy slug who only managed 9.9/19.6/45.2 due to good luck, would have been a triple OG winner and WR holder. So sad that he wasted his talent.

It is worth wondering whether a guy who ran 9.96/19.65/45.22 relatively early could not have run faster at the very least in the 100m and 400m, given his spectacular 200m time, and that came way back, did it not?

Yes, but it seems absurd to suggest that a guy could break 10 while being so lazy as to inspire rumors about it.

come to f'ville for a winter and spring. watch him "workout". you'll see what I mean. quite a pity, really. as another poster very adeptly stated, the fact that he has run the pb's that he has on the half way training and lack of 100% dedication is just further testament to his natural ability.

I have talked with the Arkansas guys back in the day as well as a coach or two. From what I heard, Spearmon wouldn't even show up to practice most of the time. He could run 20.0 without training (significantly). That's supposedly the type of talent he was. Could have been WC/OC gold medalist but never cared much I guess. He also liked to blow all his money on expensive BS like a suped up hummer and then park it in front of the indoor track facility right in everyone's way. Tyson Gay on the other hand worked his ass off and lived comfortably knowing his track days wouldn't last forever.

Don't count all this as fact (except the hummer bit which is definitely true), but it is what I gathered from speaking with several different people who would know.
