Hulk Hogan, I turned on wrestling the other night and they had this long video tribute of him playing with some sad Bob Dylan song playing in the background. I thought for sure he must have passed away, and I was about to hear the breaking news live. Then they zoomed into the ring, and it was all for his 61st birthday bash celebration! Hall and Nash came out, gave the typical "hey yo" and just like that, Hogan tore off his shirt and the NWO was reunited! Pure awesome!
I will be REALLY bummed when David Bowie dies...
It's the suicide, not the celebrity status. We wanted to believe that he loved us as we loved him.
None. They are all completely irrelevant to me and I would great their demise with serene indifference.

I was bummed when Lou Reed died for about 4 days. Kurt Cobain was a hard one for me as well. I heard the news that a dead body was discovered at his property on my car radio on a lunch break and I knew it was him.
Most celebrities I can't find any reason to feel any connection with that would make their death extremely sad to me personally.
I don't understand the spectacles of public grief that surrounded the deaths of Elvis, Kurt Cobain, and John Lennon, and Princess Diana.
Or JFK. His death has been depicted over and over in history and movies as a national trauma.
Most people I know that remember that that were around I doubt were breaking down crying about it. Probably just shocked and glued to their TV's like I was when Reagan got shot.

Yeah, but JFK wasn't a celebrity, he was the freaking president of the USA! That's not a celebrity death- it's a political action, an assassination. Much different that your favorite rock star or tv personality or movie icon.
People were shocked and scared because they didnt know how this was going to affect their lives or the direction of the nation.

Huel Howser's death still bums me out. Unique personality and he did a lot for documenting California. He's still missed in our household.
It won't move me to tears, but Garrison Keillor's death will certainly give me reason for great pause and sadness.
Keillor is probably not a celebrity on the level of others that people have listed in this thread...and anyone under 40 years of age probably has no appreciation (or knowledge) of his work...but he's a national treasure to those of us who appreciate literary humorists and radio variety shows.
To some of us, it doesn't get much better than hearing the intro "It's been another quiet week in Lake Wobegon, my hometown" and the sign-off "Where the women are strong, the men are good-looking, and the children are above average."
The two biggest celebrity deaths this millennium, Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston really hit me hard because I associated their music with my childhood and growing up. That their personal lives became so sordid didn't matter because the super-talented are almost never normal.
Was really saddened by Alfredo Di Stefano's passing last month.
I have no strong feelings for celebrities nowadays but hope Muhammad Ali , Pele, Diego Maradona, Kip Keino and Morgan Freeman live to over 100.
Bumping this after having to listen to every blow hard sports writing yap about how Ali was transcendent.
