The argument is that 8:40 types haven't run the high school steeplechase.

Ryan Hall was not a 12:50 guy. Evan Jager is not a sub-3:50 miler. Those records are weak based on the fact that the fastest (Webb didn't run the steeple; Rupp hasn't run the Marathon) haven't raced those events.

Steeple is the perfect event for him. He is a much better athlete than most distance runners. He runs up walls, can climb anything and is fearless. The fall he took at New Balance would have broken most runners but he just shook it off. I have seen him hurdle mailboxes without breaking stride on training runs.
