Great hire by UT and I'm so happy for Beth; she deserves it. Women are finally getting considered for top tier jobs and have taken the two most prestigious positions in the past two years (USC and UT). They are breaking through the glass ceiling!
I feel sorry for the good ol' boy network.... you actually have to perform now and produce results.

Oh the irony in your last paragraph. Some would argue women like BAS only get the jobs because it's trendy and good for image to have a women in charge.

The hiring of Bill O'Brien? While he did well under the circumstances he simply did not want to be there. So I would not say hiring a coach who bolted at first opportunity is not a great move.
I think we have to give Franklin a few years before we call this a great hire. It might be but he has not coached a game yet.
Joyner is leaving August 1,2014. That also could be a factor in Sullivan leaving.
It will be interesting to see if this turns into a Uconn situation. Release requests --if there are any-- held up until a new hire is made?
They have denied all requests until the new coach was hired. The athletes are supposed to be able to meet with her on July 1. Will be interesting to see who she brings with her and who might be heading to UConn or elsewhere. Could be an interesting next month.

"Separate"--does that mean cross separate from track? Or does that mean women separate from men?
I really hope in all the "reform" in the NCAA a bunch of these transfer rules are eliminated. It's ridiculous that schools can treat their "student-athletes" this way. They are not slaves and should be able to transfer between institutions just the same way all other students are able to do so.

Not to worry - I can't remember the last time PSU hired anyone that old. They seem to prefer relatively young HC hires - mid 40's tops I would think. But I agree that Cornell always has seemed well-coached. Gondak has been very successful; he might fill the bill. In fact, he would be my preference, speaking as a distance fan. But the women have been very successful in the sprints so there is always a chance they go with a sprint-oriented coach, though I hope not. BAS put together a balanced team, which can be tough to do. Although her quotes sort of drove me crazy(she has an odd way of putting together sentences), I have to give her credit. All in all she seemed to do a good job.
Gondak has shown no ability to coach distance runners. All of PS distance success came under Harry Groves.
"FL" champ said she chose PSU because of Alford and the team. Will Tessa Barrett opt out and go to UTenn?

Oh the irony...your Title IX statement is statically false. The "trend" is moving away from female coaches and is at an all time low. The SEC only cares about winning. Period.

Yes let's hire based on gender and satisfying women's rights instead of going with the most qualified. Which Sullivan is extremely qualified so no issues with her hiring. Just your general outlook on things. But I'm stoked let's bring in bad coaching because they fill a quota.

I agree, hire the most qualified. Aka Beth. But I am excited that she is breaking barriers due to her skill and hard work. No one gave her a job because she is a women. Women's rights is simply asking to be treated equal and Beth has achieved that and I celebrate it. Btw the only jobs that are "hired on gender" are the crap pay jobs, coaching one event with no scholarships, recruiter/secretary or director of ops. You can keep them.
