There was a documentary, pulled from youtube for copyright reasons, that showed him testing @ ~28", so I was being generous. It showed Donald Thomas to test @ >40". The whole video highlights a number of physical differences, including achilles length and ratio and more.

Clearly, nobody here has actually competed in the event or tried it out. Standing vertical jump has little to do with the high jump. Hell, even a running vertical jump is a very weak measurement. Look up Justin Darlington. Dude tried to qualify for the Olympics in the high jump and never went 7' and he has 6'4" with freaky hops.

I would be interested to see such a documentary or any documented proof of Holm's alleged standing vertical ability. I'm sure there's a lot more to this story. Does he hold the highest running vertical? Don't people who really care about standing vertical specifically train for the standing vertical? I hear people improving on that all the time.

In any case, I found the world record holder for the standing vertical and it's no Darlington. It's by a French dude Kadour Ziani..61" vertical!! That is freaky hops.

Go look for it on youtube. I'm sure you'll find it in time. He just isn't good at standing vertical jump.

Explosive guy, very athletic, but 48" no. Those hurdles aren't 44" (judging by the fact his hips are a few inches above the hurdle), but even if they were, he has to bring his knees up substantially to make it over them.

He might be clearing an impressive 56" with a running jump.

Right, but with regards to something like a vertical jump, which is just an obscure static measurement, there isn't anything besides random lists. You'll have to take any info regarding anyone's vertical with a grain of salt, but I wouldn't be surprised if this Ziani guy was right up there in standing vertical.
