Shalane Flanagan ON 60 MINUTES is 5 fives minutes!

I don't envy the pressure she must be feeling, either self-induced or from the pundits, to win the Boston Marathon THIS year especially.

I think she will be devastated if that doesn't happen for her.

I wish her all the best, but man, I wouldn't want to be in her shoes...

I feel like she needs to win after all the talk. That is rough considering how poorly she handled that role when she was young and walked during her first NCAA cross meet.

Runners are the worst people. I'm convinced of this.

If a guy is great, he's on drugs. If he doesn't win, he sucks and he's lazy.

If she says says she would like to win the boston marathon, she's a cocky b!tch. If she shy's away from coverage she isn't aggressive enough to win.

If the media covers a major star in the sport, it's a huge Nike conspiracy and she's setting herself up for failure. If the media ignores our best athletes it's because they only pay attention to the "dumb jock ball players".

Give it a rest folks. Boston is going to receive a HUGE amount of coverage after what happened. It's only natural that someone might actually look at our US athletes.

I think it's just the people on Letsrun. Why the message boards are populated by people who hate the sport is a mystery to me.

Shalane's segment on 60 min was fantastic. She came off as authentic and determined. Also, she finished the NY Marathon between Edna Kiplagat and Mary Keitany in 2010. Her performance at Boston last year was also solid. It was her first time on the course, and I strongly suspect that that course has a learning curve. Shalane has every reason to believe she can win a major marathon at some point.

It is appropriate to be pissed off and say it under the circumstances.

Finally watched the interview. That was brilliant.

She sounded like a middle school kid trying to psyche out the other 12 year olds. I would love to hear how much laughter came from her competitors. Jeep too will bury this biotch again.

I wouldn't overgeneralize.

I expect 95% of runners who saw the interview thought Shalane did a good job and have no criticisms. However, given the unhealthy psychology of Internet anonymity, some people feel a compulsion to find something negative to say about everything. It's always the a-holes or the people trying to be clever who stand out and not the vast majority of normal people.

This reminds me of a made for TV movie where all of the knuckleheads who have never seen a track meet say that the film was done well. All of us that know the sport understand that it was all bs.
