Salazar apologizes to Lomong; will you folks please start focusing on the real problem: USATF?

As a dedicated track fan and public relations expert I am certain Salazr's stock would go up in many people's eyes if he came out with a statement publically, apologizing for his actions at usa champs. He should address all factors: the elevator incident, yelling at lomong, yelling at the officials to get his way. Whether it be through nike or usatf or flotrack... doesn't matter. It would be the right move for him publically or else people will have a much harder time forgetting this.

Seriously, Alberto throwing his weight around might be annoying, and perhaps even corrupt if some of you see it that way. But the fact that USATF can be swayed so easily by Salazar is the real problem. The biggest issue here is USATF, but everyone is more focused on NOP/Salazar/etc. Time to move on from that drama and fix what's really wrong.

Based on everything I know about this situation AlSal and USATF did nothing wrong. There is a lot of things we can question about the situation, but the fact is, an infraction occurred, a flag was raised, USATF decided to let it go, a coach filed a petition and upon further review a DQ was given. Plain and simple! Although I am happy about how it all worked out, nothing was done that's incorrect. With that said, USATF perhaps needs to walk us through their decision process as it specifically relates to this issue.

the wrong thing was the third appeal - there was no conclusive new evidence that allowed the third appeal. At least they haven't told us what that conclusive new evidence was. Plus the fact that there is apparently zero precedent for a minor heel clip to result in a DQ in a championship type race. Plus the fact that USATF told GG to go home, it's over, you won. When it wasn't. So you are wrong - things did go wrong.

then there's the bumbi mistaken ID problem that they still haven't answered.

Really, track coach, come on - things went wrong. I'm probably not even citing many of them.

I don't know about that, but I've been surprised for many years why Salazar (or Salazar at his bosses' behest) doesn't do more to market himself and NOP... besides all the gadgetry, do something even blatantly good-feeling. Bullfisch touchey-feely uplifting propaganda isn't that hard to do, it's so ubiquitous in America.

I'm a HS Director of T&F and I noticed USATF Meet Operations is a total abortion. The paid staffers and volunteers with credentials should be managing the officials and observing what is going on. Instead they are taking selfies with their smartphones, using videos cameras and big Canon cameras. The staff members should not be doing this. USATF should ban cameras from meet management as I do at my TF/XC meets.

Back to the original point of the thread: Salazar may have apologized to Lopez. We are taking the word of Ken Goe and Lopez. Here is another situation where impropriety may exist. Lopez is paid by Nike and Ken Goe is let's say less critical of Nike than other journalists. I would feel better if Toni Reavis wrote that Alberto had apologized.

Further, the apology should extend farther than Lopez. The apology should be directed toward the children and their parents in the mixed zone. It will be impossible to find these people at this point. In which case the apology should be public and made to all spectators and fans.

So you think Lomong is lying? Seriously?

The bottom line is that Salazar is a great coach, but a toxic person. I appreicate what he has done for his athletes and hope he continues to have the same level of success, but I do believe he should be banned from attending their competitions in person, due to his inability to restrain himself. He definitely needs to learn some anger-management techniques. It is easy to see why he had a heart attack.

Explosive rage is when Salazar lost control of his ability to think before yelling. Was he yelling in his mind and he did not realize it was also coming out of his mouth? He may have a mental problem that need medical care.

Ken Goe behaves like a Nike shill. His entire line appears to be pre-approved by Nike Beaverton Public Relations.
