I'm 60+ years old, and, now, you're time is decent (not great) to me. A sincere congrats to you and keep it up!In perspective, I had a 1:05 HM split on the way to a 2:12 marathon (Boston, 1975). You're right though, they were "glory days", but fortunately I did run that. These days, I hope I can still enjoy the sport by watching today's great runners. Yes, I do admire Jordan Hasay, from the time I saw her win XC Jrs. in Boulder, CO. It's certainly nothing personal against Jordan; she was clearly and FAIRLY beaten by 2 superior athletes(at least on that day) In fairness to her, the 3,000 meter is not her distance. She is a 5/10k/ marathoner, imo. Keep going "above and beyond" if that's how you roll. Steve

I don't know which video you watched, but I didn't see anyone go through anybody. I also did not see anyone get cut-off, knocked over, bloodied. Look up "incidental" in the dictionary.That's the kind of contact I saw...and the officials (at least until they were coerced)

I lied. I ran 2:11.54. I beat Tom Fleming, who ran 2:12.05; the only time that I beat Tom. Tom placed 2nd two years and did win NYC. A great runner! Steve Hoag, Minneapolis,MN

P.S. Good luck with your running til you die. I once wanted to do that!

Gabe broke no rules, regarding track and field. She did not impede anyone. Her last lap was a bit clumsy, but was due to her running so much faster than Hasay and Rowbury. Hasay was also clumsy and bobbing around, due to being so exhausted. All contact was incidental and had no bearing on the outcome of the race.

The only "rule" she perhaps broke was beating Alberto's 2 prize runners....Alberto doesn't like that!

Lastly, I don't think that America was shamed. A courageous,talented young woman (rightfully)is representing us!

A suggestion for Gabe, offered in half seriousness: Get a pair of glasses and wear them during your races. You would then be able to see the runner in front of you and not come to close to potentially cause contact.

I don't like to use my name (and times) on public forums, but I used it just to show that I do have some credibility about running. Having said that, it doesn't mean I'm right on a given subject; it's just that I have a lot of experiences in 50+ years of running, and I would like to think that counts for something! I've raced XC, indoor and outdoor track (at the University of Minnesota) and road races ranging from 5k to marathon. I can not run anymore (66!) but I coach HS distance. I have pretty much seen everything in track, roads, xc; that's why I felt so strongly about Grunewald's DQ!

To Oregeon: I have raced a lot indoors at the U of M. Like I said, I have seen much worse contact in a race (indoor or out) with no DQs. That's not to say Gabe ran a beautiful last lap. She could have gone around Hasay, but thinking gets muddled on the gun lap sometimes. Not to mention ALTITUDE. I thought both Gabe and Jordan looked ragged...but that's easy for me to say from my living room chair @sea level!

I ran on a board track once, and that was enough!

If you don't know who Steve Hoag is (was), then sorry but your opinion really is irrelevant. You have posted your thoughts. Please leave and let those with a better understanding of the sport - and can put all of this into context - continue. You're done.

The Nike/Oregon fanboys (much like a Duck), really do a disservice to the great lagacy that has been Oregon. Those who truly excelled do not need defending (neither does Hasay), and these pathetic attempts at it only create a disharmony that shouldn't be there. Sad really.
