Dude was a fine actor. Too bad about the junk. I can't blame anyone for taking drugs, but damn it's sad.

He woulda been better off smoking heroin than shooting. Still would be a junkie, but might be alive.

You two obviously don't know the difficulties of addiction. He was sober for 23 years and relapsed last year.

It is a struggle day in and day out. Heroin is a terrible drug to shake once you've done it. I wish people would stop thinking they can handle it because the truth is nobody can.

Note to prospective breeders: If your spouse/SO is a "reformed" addict of any sort, consider the consequences of relapse before having kids with them. Not saying "don't", just be realistic in weighing the options.

In this case I assume at least the kids will be well-provided for.

Your personal life is your own creation. Hoffman created his life, and his death, all with action based on beliefs and imagination. It's quite simple. If you respond to this, you're creating your life with each stroke of the key. Choosing from probable realities, and acting.

He died doing what he loved. RIP.

It's good to hear someone mention his performance in "Love Liza." Hardly anyone saw it, and reviews of the movie were mixed. But his performance was so poignant, so achingly sad. "Love Liza" was followed shortly thereafter by "Owning Mahowny," and I think that his performances in both films reflected his own vulnerabilities.

I'm really shocked by the number of comments on this thread criticizing the character or worth of this man. Over the years, I've heard many good things said about PSH, and I don't recall ever hearing anyone impugn his character or humanity.
