HA! Excellent find. When asked if he browses LetsRun, he says he's "Almost never there." Yeah right!!!

He seems to agree with me though, that Webb has gotten undeserved hate in his career. But he seems to think the message boards hate him... I think overall LRC has a very positive opinion of him.

Webb used to be one of the most passionate runners and now is just so...docile.

I can't quite grasp the animosity towards Webb from many Americans. OK , so he never really achieved much on the world stage but he did post some exceptional times over a tremendous range of distances. Point out his failings by all means but credit where it's due , surely?

One thing I never understood about his career. Before he went to college should he not have sat down with Warhurst and discussed the nature of the training he would be expected to do? It was very different from the approach adopted by his coach in High School and it's obvious from reading the book about Webb's year in college that he never had absolute confidence in the programme - which largey explains his lack of success that year. Since he was always going to pursue a career as a professional runner should he not have enrolled at a school where the training was at least similar to that which had bought him success to date?

Arguably , his career was defined by this unsuccessful college year? Did it ever really get back on track in a competitive sense?

I say this as a huge Alan Webb fan but I really hope this isn't his perspective going into it. It's possible he will do very well but he needs to be realistic as he's barely been in the water for 15 years and just started riding last year. Lets win one first and then go after the Olympic Champ.
