Rosa beating Webb at any distance only goes to show how far from competitive he really is. And it is a shame, people make it out like Webb is 41 he is only just turned 30. He could still easily be competitive, Symmonds is.

4:02 is a solid opener for him. I'm guessing his 800 was run at goal mile pace- 3:50. I think he'll go sub 3:55 for sure indoors.
You heard it here first- 3:35 or faster outdoors. Staying healthy and patient is key. I'd love to see Webb serve golden boy Rupp.

It's not sub 4. At that level the timing system could be off by a big enough factor for the real time to be not sub 4. Also, at any rate, 3:59.98 is sub 4, but no one would disagree it's closer to 4. A casual observer would declare it near identical.

No. 3:59.99999 = 4:00.00 as far as track and field times are concerned. It is not sub 4.
Neighbor ran a good for a fitness runner 3:44:56 marathon. When I referred to her casually as a 3:45 marathoner she got all up in my face about being a 3:44 marathoner. I don't think there is anything materially different between a 3:44 marathon, a 3:45 marathon and a 3;46 marathon. 3:43>47 even.At that pace you're pretty much running in a pack and things like optimizing tangents not slowing for water stops, being boxed in blah blah, you know the things runners and racers think about, are not in the mix.

Joe Rosa who is hardly thought of as a a miler, beat him..Great race for Joe, really, a huge PR right out of the box and he was injured all cross.
LetsRun homepage says "Super Hot on LetsRun: WEBB IS BACK BABY!!!." The way it should be. That is just so heartwarming.

Saw both races and briefly talked to him after the 800 (very willing to chat, take pictures, etc. -- always nice). After mentioning a bit of a sore calf for the 800 (probably from the mile) he said "I feel healthy, just not fast". Seemed about right.
He looked to be working harder than the other people in the race, and seemed to lose a bit of form towards the end of the mile. Just looked like there wasn't another gear there where it should be.
just listened to his flotrack interview. He said he's doing a lot more cross training. It will be interesting to see if this will work.
Webb is awesome. Let's just hope he finally lives up to his talent. He ran 353 in HS off like 50-60 mpw, so he's basically the most talented male runner the USA ever got. And 31 is not too late to make use of that talent. Just look at Lagat still running well at his age.
I suppose it is possible that he is doing 5k/10k training, which would suggest 402 is about right.
If ritz or ryan hall ran 402 we'd be happy - 'hey, to do that on long distance training is awesome!'
