Same reason why the MIAA does not allow private schools to compete with them. Ludicrous. This includes non-MIAA events like the Dartmouth Relays, for instance, where they will refuse to participate if one private school student is in their heat.

St.Johns Prep, Urusline, Bishop Stang, Bishop Feehan, Notre Dame, Central Catholic, Milton Academy, Austin Prep just to name some off the top of my head. They all compete in the MIAA. I feel like it's probably the opposite and private schools think they are too good to race with public schools, so they form their own little entitled leagues.

Also, thats bull crap about not being able to race at dartmouth against prep schools. I myself have raced at many out of state invites, including Dartmouth, and I have raced against private school kids. Most private schools just don't have indoor track, simple as that. You can't really structure divisions with schools that don't compete all three seasons.

Not BS. As a coach at a private school - - I have been told to my face by meet directors (including meet director at Dart Relays) that we can't compete with MA public schools. In fact, I've invited them to meets that I've run - in XC and outdoor track, and been turned down.You are right though - I some private schools do compete in MIAA, yes. What I should have said is, if you are not a member of MIAA, you are shut out of any competitions with them. This is different than most state league's rules - that's the point I was trying to make.

I think Silly is being "silly." The Mass runners have their state divisional meets the second Saturday in November, and the State Meet is the third weekend. The

Mass coaches have, several times, to shorten their season by two weeks. The other N.E. state reps have also refused to move the New England Meet back even a week to try and entice Mass.

In the past few years the Mass runners have done very well in National meets, i.e. Pembroke, Bishop Feehan, Hamilton-Wenham, Catarina Rocha.

Mass does participate in the Winter and Spring New England meets and does very well. Mass (and CT) winter season ends the week before the New England Meet and athletes get ready for the Nationals. Why do other N.E. states (ME, VT, NH, RI) end their winter season before February vacation? Is this because their coaches want a vacation?

So Silly should not say Mass has an air of arrogance. Perhaps it might be the other way around. Why do the five other N.E. states end their xc season the end of October? Seems sort of out of sequence when you have only a two month season for xc

In Mass (St. John's Prep, Bishop Feehan, BC HIgh, Ursuline, BIshop Feehan, etc.) are Catholic Schools that run high school programs like LaSalle and Hendricksen in RI Cheverus in ME Bishop Guertin in NH and Xavier and Fairfield Prep in CT.

They are different from Milton Academy, Tabor, Deerfield, Philips Andover and Exeter, Loomis, and other schools that participate in the NE Prep program. That is why the Penn Relays has Prep School relays and high school relays. They can not mix the teams or they will be denied a National sanction.

It is an age-old problem of Prep vs Public. For those schools that have boarding students and get athletes from areas that are more than in-town or a town away, plus take students for an extra year after they have finished a public high school (most Prep's) do not seem to fit the Nat. guidelines

It seems like you anti-Mass guys have selective memory....seems like MA has done pretty well in the last couple of years with Bishop Feehan and Pembroke boys making it, as well as Hamilton-Wenham girls. LEt's see this year.

You only mention boys, but it is too bad that the best girls in NE Abbie McNulty (sr. Bishop Feehan, MA), Hannah Debalsi (so. Conard-CT) and Anoush Shehadeh (so. Andover Acad-MA private) did not meet this season. Perhaps they will tangle at NXN)

Wondering how the course is in length and speed, as a further analysis of the top finishers PRs results in only decent mile prs. You have people in other states like California barely sniffing sub 15/low 15 with sub 4:12 miles.

It's a legit 5k in both length and difficulty. Ben True ran 15:17 and 15:22 there in 03 when he came in 5th at Footlockers.

Let's look at the PRs of the top 5

Hopper: 9:07 3200, 14:50 5K

Ostberg: 9:12 3200, 15:08 5K

Holt-Andrews: 9:16 3200, 14:57 5K

Tierney: 9:22 3200, 14:59 5K

Alvarado: 9:07 3200, 8:26 3K, 4:11 Mile, 15:16 5K

But yes, lets diss these guys' 5K ability based on mile PRs when these runners are clearly more distance oriented. And the only 2 sub 4:12 guys in CA are Haney and Tamagno, who have run 13:55 and 14:07 3 miles, respectively.

Seems like all the discussion on which state is better was put to rest this past weekend the FootLocker and NXN. Here are the qualifiers and the data is not conclusive. Seems like the RI people suffered worst with only one qualifier.

NH has the only team to make it. PEmbroke (MA) was the next closet team in 4th and beating all the other teams talked about, chest pounded about, in previous parts of this string.
