I ran faster indoors in college.
But I think outdoor tracks are faster.
In New England, the indoor season is intense and hella fun. There is excitement in the air that can't be matched outdoors.

Yep. Many top runners don't even run indoors. What is Rudisha's indoor PR? Just look at some of the guys who held those records.
Eamonn Coghlan was smart, he realized that indoor tracks were not that much slower and he had a shot at the indoor WR even though his outdoor PR was only 3:52 at the time. He ran... 3:50 indoor. 3:51 outdoor the next summer. And this was 1983, when the indoor tracks were probably nothing like Stuttgart today.
Haile has the 1500 indoor record... do you think he would come anywhere in the ballpark of the outdoor record?
Like I said earlier, a more fair comparison is NCAA times, because they take both seasons fairly seriously. Even though runners are in better shape outdoor, more of them break 4:00 (or equivalent) indoor.
Haile doesn't have the indoor 1500 record, El G does.
A lot of the top indoor marks are held by the outdoor record holders
800- Kipketer held both indoor and outdoor
1500- El G holds both indoor and outdoor
Mile - El G holds both indoor and outdoor.
3000- Komen owns both.
5000- Bekele holds indoor and outdoor

You're saying Rupp was similar to Farah because they train together (how similar we don't know, we just know Farah always beats him), and Farah ran X therefore Galen must run close to X. I say why not just look directly at Galen's times. 3:50.92 indoor, 3:52.11 outdoor in a fast race. Centrowitz was also quite similar to Rupp in time trials, running 3:51.34 indoor, 3:51.73 outdoor, and losing to Mo by almost 5 seconds at Monaco.
Would Coghlann have run 3:47 in 1983 by your conversion? I doubt it. If he could he would have gone after that instead of the indoor record.

Todd Harbour ran 3:50.34 for the outdoor mile years ago.
Earl Gray ran 1:43.74 for the outdoor 800 years ago.
The numbers don't support the notion that indoors is faster than outdoors.

I read that off the DirectAthletics list from last year. Apparently they are missing some outdoor performances but there is still more depth indoor.

Bowerman mile is early season outdoors. Also El G never went for world records at Eugene. El G never came close to his outdoor prs anytime in the indoor season. Why? Because indoors is slower.
