First marathon in the spring of 2014.
Skip the upcoming indoor season and run mileage.
Find a Rupp certified marathon course in the spring.
Maybe London.
Run the 10,000 at USATF.
Race on the track in Europe over the summer. Go after the US 5000m record.
Then he can gauge what to do after the 2014 season.
I suppose he could try running one marathon this coming year. Its an off years with an opportunity to try new things.
But the bottom line is that Rupp is not going to move up to Marathon until at least after Rio. He just isn't. Salazar made that clear and it doesn't seem like Rupp's heart is into it.
This is like those who are still wondering about a Mayweather Pacquiao fight. You can dream about it, but its just not going to happen. Move on.

Galen should have done it in London or Boston in 2013. He peaked on the track with silver in London. Failing a spring 2013 debut, he should be doing New York this year. Depending on how Nike pays him for running on the track, he probably would have made more in NY than going to Moscow and not medalling.
Having said that, since Mo is his training partner and is running London in 2014, Galen should be training with Mo and run London in the spring. At this point Galen is giving up good marathoning years without the prospect of getting much better vs. international competition on the track.

(No Hall, Ritz, Meb, Teg... Their time will be up by then, if it is not already)
3 years is a long time maybe someone who has not even started running yet will make the team.
examples dennis kimmetto hust won chicago in 2:03.45 and he says he had not even started running 3 years ago.
or maybe someone will go to the doctor and be told they are too fat and have to start exercising or they will remain a high risk for a heart attack. this is how elijah lagat got into running he went on to run 2:07 for the marathon and won boston.

I believe ventolin rarely uses capitalization (I csn't remember if he does for names or not). The post before had some letters capitalized.

The truth is that marathon is not a real running race. It is survival at best. It does pay well, but how did the world ever start measuring runners with the marathon? 100 through 10,000. Those are all real running races that humans can train for and expect to compete in without having their bodies fail in the process. Rupp makes enough money now. If he is smart, he will steer clear of the marathon (and so will Ritz and Mo).
but, the championship 5ks and 10ks are hobbyjogs except for the final laps. they are not real running races.

If you want to be strict about what I said, then I am wrong. I don't know absolutely he isn't ventolin.
I am very confident of this assertion though. There are differences in the spelling/tone/capitalization of the posts, at times the writing style is subtly different, given that V3 is (as far as I know) an adult doctor in Europe I really doubt he would post randomly in relationship threads as shtdi, and they have different views about some runners and about doping.
Either V3 is a guy who knows a TREMENDOUS amount about older races and is pulling of one of the most subtle, long lasting trolling jobs in LRC history; or they are different people.
I think the latter is much more likely to be correct.
Why does it have to be so black and white? He can do a marathon fall 2014 / spring 2015, run track until Rio, marathon again after Rio.
Honestly, way too many think that once you run a hard 26 miles, you can't run a fast 5k again. Stupid.
He can, and should, focus on "both" over the next two years and see where he is more competitive.
