The Future Has Arrived, Jager Almost Beats Ruppp!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think nobody really raises the question of PEDs with Jager because he has run medal contender times in the steeple and obviously was due for a large 5k PR.

Not to say that Rupp is not talented, nor anyone else on the pro scene, but I've always thought that Evan Jager simply looks FAST. He looks so smooth when he runs and has some pretty good wheels. Really looking forward to seeing his progression.

Jerry's guys all get passes because they're blue collar. Believe me, Jerry is just as ruthless as Salazar, just more disguised.

Didn't Ritz go from like 13:16 to 12:56 in one race under Salazar? Not accusing at all (Ritz is my favorite runner), just pointing out that these things DO happen on this level. Although the legitimacy of such performances is certainly a bit suspect.

They do... I was just yanking the chain of the "everyone faster than me is a drug cheat" and "I have Salazar" crowd.

rupp is B+ right now. jager is A game for him. people who are in the know are not surprised in the lease with the 5k at 13;02. in the perfect race jags can knock 5 more seconds off that time. probably best he didn't or else he'd have crazy expectations moving forward.

rupps A game puts him just behind Mo you know in both the 5 and 10k.

salazar will be scratching his head. personally i'd get rupp do the same things he's doing but back off 5 -10 % and just keep him a fraction fresher - and race a little less in the winter and a bit more in the summer.

face it, it takes your A game to medal and peaking just right and not over-baking it is so tricky.

so many guys could not get it together, you have good bad leo, centro getting lucky really to have it come together, nick willis knowing what to do to peak and somehow not being to repeat his silver medal formula. then you have kiprop who could easily have blown it. and silas getting it together late.

guys like nick symmonds and jager saved it for later in the season. nick surely got it right, but you have to wonder if jager peaked a little late.

guys that are lightly raced and are doing well should run a couple more races.

and guys that are declining need to pack it in.

very young guys need to pack it in by now. they crash and burn easiest.

one more point. B+ rupp was 1.5 seconds back of an in-shape ethopian who ran 12:47 last year.

There are only three slots available at an American World qualifier.

Now there's four guys able to go low 13.

Add to that a record number of Americans going sub 3:35 in the 1500 this year.

A couple of them will probably have moved up to the 5000 by 2015.

I'd say that (unless everyone's gonna sit and kick) there's gonna be one helluva fast qualifer for Worlds in the early 2015, maybe all three guys making the team will need to run a PB for it...

Rupp has been fantastic for American running. Every lover of the sport should be very thankful.

But now it's time to move on.

Silly premise for this thread. Jager runs an awesome PR and is pumped about it, and still loses to Rupp who did not look at all like his best. How does this translate to Jager dominating Rupp in the future?

I think they are both great runners and I am certain that Rupp will at least PR again at 5k (and have a strong feeling he'll breakthrough and get the AR at some point). I am equally certain that we'll see Jager at 12:57 (if he takes enough attempts at the 5k), and potentially much faster (no idea what his limits might be). But let's not forget that despite all the hype about Jager's speed, Rupp is several seconds faster at 1500m.

As a fan I am glad to see a multitude of US guys capable of regularly producing a 13:05ish performances. Right now there is Lagat sub 13, Rupp at 13:01, Jager at 13:02, Lomong at 13:07, Derrick at 13:08, and True, Bumbalough, and Mead near 13:10 (I probably forgot some people near 13:10).

If the US is able to have about 8 sub 13:05 guys at the same time, the pressure to make the top 3 will likely ensure that the top 3 guys in any given year are between 12:55 and 13:00. That is really approximately the same level as Kenya or Ethiopia (maybe a fraction slower). In that scenario, in any given championship we should expect to have 3 guys in the final and one serious contender. I think the USA is only a few years away from this level. By the time last year's strong class of 1600/3200 guys enters their professional years, we should be seeing some medals in the 5k.

This glut of talent is already present in the 1500m, and though we don't have the top level times to show for it, we are seeing the medals. Between the 1500m and soon to be 5000m strength, I can't see how we aren't going to make inroads in the steeplechase. Obviously Jager is already doing so, but I see more sub 8:10s coming, perhaps in 2015 when people start thinking ahead about their chances to make an Olympic team. Imagine you can run 13:05 and are 8th on the US 5k list. You'd probably start looking at the steeple as an alternative.

These are just predictions, but it will be great to see what will come of the USA. So nice to see after suffering through the 90s...

this trend just proves how great rupp really is... it is news to people and its a off day if he runs 13:0x lol... and it is a dream day. a career a+ performance and people praise jager for running close to rupp lol... so on his off day he can dominate the best americans.. boy must really suck to have a off day and almost break 13 in a 5k... ya jager is the future? how old is rupp again.. this guy isn't going anywhere for as long as jager is around.. sorry to the rest of the americans.. this is rupps soil and he has a big silver metal to prove it... as far as the rest of the American runners who run a fast time 1 out of 50 races. guys like solinsky and ritz. leo. webb.. these guys have ran fast. but I don't think we have ever seen anyone so consistent as rupp. somebody name his last bad race..... please ....!! when is his last bad race? and don't come on here saying a 13:09 or something that he has ran somtime the last few years is bad lol..
