I would feel bad if Rupp fell, but he didn't fall so I don't feel bad. Maybe that's what he needs. A good grounding. He can use that experience to ignite a fire in his heart and propel himself to a world medal. El Guerrouj used his 1996 Olympic fall to springboard into his 2004 Olympic gold.
From what I saw, it looked like Rupp was the one weaving around lanes and causing the contact. Also looked really unprofessional of him to turn back and jaw off for a couple seconds. I wouldn't consider that ok even if the contact was someone else's fault. Two strikes against Rupp in my book.
At about 10:50 on the video. They also show a slo-mo replay but it misses the lead-up of Rupp passing on the outside. Looks to me like Rupp cuts in way too early on Hassan -- didn't have close to a stride length lead.
The problem, and what caused the contact, was Solinsky and his dumb a$s move as Rupp came up on the outside. Solinsky actually cut off the guy who was on his shoulder and whose forced action clipped Rupp. If anything Solinsky should have been DQ'd.
As far as Rupp is concerned: the big dog gets to have his day. He's earned it and the little dogs better learn to respect it or their going to get bitten.
From what I could see, it looked like Rupp's move caused a little movement between Solinsky and True, which caught Hassan off guard so he jumped out into lane 2 and accidentally caught Rupp. I think it was just the side effect of that tight group running, shouldnt have been a surprise to anyone in that pack.
Whatever anyone may feel about about the dude on this board... I agree Rupp could've handled himself better, but I think getting angry in the heat of a race is a forgivable offense.
From what I can see from the video, his mouth isn't moving, is he actually saying anything to Mead?
Rupp is Americas best chance for a distance medal. So from that perspective, how dare someone clip him.
But that overreaction was ridiculous. He's a complete brat. It didn't make Rupp lose focus but Mead certainly did. Mead didn't go with True's move at all. Mead was probably offended.
If he makes any sort of apology/remark...I think it would be indicative that these message boards do have an affect. True?

Nine guys jogging at tempo pace within inches of each other. What does he think is going to happen? If he doesn't like it and wants to run safe he should have taken the lead as Lagat did for most of the race.
Really bad look for Rupp, who caused the trouble himself weaving around when there was absolutely no reason to do so. Especially when it wasn't even Mead who made the contact.
Rupp should apologize publicly.

"Lesser" competitors--as Rupp perceives them to be--should be very worried if Rupp tossed them to the ground--even though he is not physically capable of doing so. Rupp would then clamp his mouth around their neck in an attempt to establish he is the top dog, by forcing the lesser dog into submission. The "lesser" dog has the choice of going to battle with the dog that thinks it is bigger. Afterwards, regardless of who wins the top dog war, the two dogs end up sniffing each other behinds, and also lick each other. That is the way it works in the "real" dog world.

Definitely. I just wish he could act like an adult toward his colleagues. Even Kemboi/Kiputo didn't have a hissyfit after REAL contact when it REALLY mattered in a race the other week.

Actually, the total amateurism on display in the race (from Rupp, not Lagat or True) is exactly what we're talking about. A guy like Rupp taking the time to chew out a non-contender mid-race is pathetic.
You wouldn't see it from a non-fluke Olympic medallist, and Rupp wouldn't have the gonads to do it to a Lagat or Farah, who could just as easily be involved in contact at that joke pace.
Seriously, think about it. Who else at that level would act this way toward their own countrymen in a trials race? Lagat? Farah? Nope.

This is dead on. If you watch the slow motion replay, it was more than someone clipping Rupp's heal. His ankle partially turned over and his stride got chopped. He over-reacted, but I would put his reaction similar to someone jumping out and startling you. When you're surprised by something like that it leads to an adrenaline rush that can cause a quick reaction. I've seen similar incidents many times before.
Anyone trying to impinge Rupp's character or ask him to apologize based on his reaction is either a troll or has never raced before. Is every NBA player that has ever received a technical foul in their career or had heat of the moment words with an opponent a brat or jerk? Some of these posts are just dumb.

This is exactly what happened.
He didn't have the gonads to go up front and out of trouble like Lagat. He also lacked the gonads to stay with a plan an settle in mid-pack.
Of course he feels anxious handing the race to Lagat with 75-second laps. Deal with it by controlling the race, not by scurrying around in the pack like a panicked HS kid.
Oh, and is anyone still saying that Rupp is now superior to Lagat in the mile? Because for a 10,000 runner to get smoked in the last mile of a 5,000...

Rupp: Silver Medalist, 10k AR, 7:30, 3:50 = he can do whatever the truck he wants at a slow-paced national championship race. He needed to do one thing in that race: finish top 3 and punch his SECOND ticket to Moscow.
When some NO-NAME clips/elbows/touches/whatever the Olympic Silver Medalist, the dude should get lit up.
The pansies on these boards want some kind of idyllic, no-contact, everyone-hugs-at-the-end race. THIS IS NOT THE REALITY. Rupp is out there to win; it does not matter to him if winning (or finishing top 3 in this case) conforms to the ideal of some sub-19 fan boys. In this mentality and within the rules of the sport, he can do whatever he wants including cursing-out a third-stringer who's only still in the race because this pace wasn't taken out.
All respect to Mead (or whomever), I appreciate their hard-work/talent but Rupp trumps.
