Tomorrow I am going to figure out I'm not the finest accountant at my company. I will head home devastated.

I'd agree with except for Rupp. I always thought he was just totally wasting his time on the track and needed to run the marathon like yesterday.

But we've pointed out in the past that Abbey's ultimate event is likely the 10k. She's more like Flanagan.

Yes. She run's all her races in lane 2!!!! Coogan must think that is good? You can get away with it in the ivy league but on the national level, no way! Plus, she just didn't look good at all. Hasay would have taken her easily on this day.

She jogged an extra 90 meters and ran an extra 10 perhaps. Obviously, she couldn't afford to spot the likes of Rowbury and Simpson anything. I don't think she had a chance to qualify in such a slow race no matter what. Pushing the pace herself would have been worse.

As Salazar makes abundantly clear, you can't be competitive without a fearsome kick. Average kickers are one-trick ponies. They can win fast races that they don't have to lead themselves. They are sitting ducks in all other contexts.

The good news is that she has ample time to prepare for 2016, and if she stays injury-free, she'll be an Olympian and likely a finalist.

Lol. I've always felt that distance races should have prime laps with cash prizes, just to keep things interesting. Give those mid-packers something to run for and so they don't have to resort to a hopeless sit-and-kick strategy.

This makes sense! In the 1960s, a staple of the then Indoor Meets in the San Francisco Bay Area was the fan-friendly event:

The "Devil Take The Hindmost Mile".

12 runners started the race on the 11 laps-to-the-mile track.

After each lap, the runner who was judged last was waived off the track. This continued until the last lap when there were just two runners left with one lap to go.

The crowd roared throughout the entire race. There was a mad rush and flurry of runners each lap that avoided being the one that had to drop out.

This makes even more sense for the 5000 & 10000.

It would provide for more competitive races and provide the fans with something interesting happening every lap... instead of waiting for the last 600 meters for some excitement.

Let's say we start with 16 runners in the 5000 and after 1000 meters they start waiving one runner per lap leaving 6 runners in the final lap.

So, who were the ones that organized those meets? The founders of Track & Field News!!

Saw her in the airport Monday am - she seemed far from devastated. In fact she seemed in a pretty good mood.

where did you hear that? I've only heard of one person who has been announced for Team USA on this squad (Montez Blair of Cornell, who is also going to Moscow in the HJ as he got 3rd on Sunday, if he PRs by 1cm) as USATF has yet to announce anything about it yet.

No Abbey on Team USA for World University Games - the longest event they have is the 1500m.
