If you read the story he had "his" reasons. Obviously a poor choice. Danielson is in jail to stay.
Unfortunately, his "wife" put herself is a bad situation. She evidently paid him $25,000 to marry her so she could move to the U.S. She filed for divorce two days after she couldn't be sent back to her country. She should have moved out then, and stayed moved out. Instead she returned to his house and started dating someone.
Woman should avoid getting themselves into ugly situations. She didn't deserve to get killed. Danielson obviously had drinking issues. She should have keep her distance.
Thank you for posting the article and video. It is interesting to see Danielson in a high school race. I'm pretty sure that I'd not seen that before. He looked kind of uncoordinated to me, but obviously was quite coordinated, and had a quick, very powerful stride.That happened is certainly a tragedy. He was responsible for making threats, the drinking, banishing the guns, all very bad habits, dangerous, and he had a bad temper.However the drug is likely what put him over the edge and caused him to murder someone he cared about. When will society start holding pharma companies and their doctor peddlers reponsible, instead of trying to glorify the drugs and act like they make people super heros! Brojos this is what the drugs do, they are nothing to be glorified.

The most inhumane thing in the whole article was this passage.

Thinking about this today, he should have gone to UO and teamed up with Bowerman. He had a strong contingent of m-distance runners during that era and Danielson would most likely have thrived in that environment.

Sounds like she was intentionally pushing his buttons for whatever reason. Not sure why you would rub your romantic/sexual exploits in your ex's face. Not saying she deserved it, but at some point a person can only take so much and they break. You've got to be semi-stupid to not realize that.

She was trying to make him jealous and get his attention.
Jere Longman is a top notch writer, and really good on distance running. He's also older, and so has a lot of mature perspective to draw from. No surprise one would think this is the Times at its best. Jere is definitely among the very best.
Sad, Very sad. Great story by the NY Times. Very impressive. So many opportunities waisted. A good Mentor couldve changed all that. This is the typical life of a "star athlete" without guidance. Without Jesus Christ in his life. Ok, I get it, everyone now bash the Jesus Freak guy...listen, Ive tasted that life he lived. I stood there and watched All American High School athletes waste their lives and alcohol and drugs played a roll in their downfall. Jesus Christ continually gives "purpose,direction,and motivation to live life even when the world closes the door. Just a sad sad story.

Danielson committed first degree murder and will get the punishment he deserves. The murder was willful, deliberate, and premeditated. He has only himself to blame. He has a history of violence against women. The only number that matters now in his life is 187.
Premeditated? No. Willful maybe. Deliberate, unlikely.
You didn't read the story. The women from his past did not have anything bad to say about him regarding violence. Drinking was a long time problem.
Danielson will remain in prison the rest of his life.
