This is awesome. Crazy to think about running that fast. He split some 59s in the middle of a 5k. The video is even better than I thought it would be.

When the pacer was cranking out laps at the front they looked like they were hauling, then bekele takes over and it doesn't look like he's traveling as fast as he is, but he is... very deceptive how much ground he covers with each step. Legs like pistons man.
You young whipper snappers could learn a thing or two from witnessing his leg speed velocity.
Not to mention his stride turnover rate.
It's too bad that after 8.5 years this video finally surfaced only a couple hours before we found out Suzy Favor-Hamilton is a hooker.

Yeshhh.....indeed.

lol, 12:37 and he is hardly breathing. Blood doping is an amazing thing.
Why should he be breathing hard? You shouldn't be horribly out of breath after running a personal best 5k time. Maybe a mile or 800 but not a 5k.

He's obviously doped to the gills and if you want to live in ignorance then go ahead.

I'd much rather live in ignorance of the fact that twits like you exist, but alas . . .
If "looking easy" has any positive or negative correlation with doping, consider this (often suspected by trolls on LR) WR:
beautiful! thanks to everyone who kept talking about this, and to those from the hengelo race who posted it.
and thank the flying spaghetti monster that guy got out of lane 1 as bekele lapped him with 300 m to go. classy move right there.

Paula always ran like that. She said that her 2:15 felt absolutely effortless. A run when everything "clicked".

Flying, and he did a lot of the pacemaking himself. It was pretty cool when he ran his 8th or 9th lap in 59.50, people started getting excited.
Where's ventolin? Maybe he can show us what shape Bekele was in that day
i've posted it before
does anyone now seriously doubt the kennster that day was a serious threat to 7'20 ???
prelim of
51.3 / 1'47.6 ->
3'30.3
4'45.6
7'19.3
12'35.2
26'12.8
( obviously assuming perfect even pace )

Well done to the op - Good job!

Bekele simply runs differently from everyone else.
His transition from from full hip extension to hip flexion is incredibly quick, probably because of the extreme knee flexion during that transition (in other words, his trailing foot comes up much higher than anyone else's).
That knee flexion is probably in part a reaction to the tremendous force he's generating when he drives off the ground. But his knee flexion is even greater than that of many sprinters, so maybe it's partly anatomical.
Notice also that there's very little vertical displacement in his stride. Nearly all that power is directed forward, even though he doesn't lean forward in an exaggerated way (which would undermine balance). I suppose that's why his stride is just as long as that of Mottram, who is about 10 inches taller.
And he's obviously very powerful for his size, which probably explains why he can run repeat 200s in 22.xx.
Just amazing . . .
I can't believe I managed to live to see this video online. It's like the holy grail of distance running.
I can't believe Salazar hyping up Mo like the best distance runner ever. Mo would have been smoked to the ground by this Bekele. He's just lucky an older, injured sub-par Bekele turned up at London.
Rupp: Hey Bekele, I ran 8:09 indoors
Bekele: That's cute, I cruised through 8:09 en route to my 5k world record.
27 for the pacer, 28 for bekele.
600 1:30 (61.98)
1000 62.51
1400 61.14
1800 60.59
2200 61.11
2600 60.91
3000 60.34
3400 59.50
3800 60.49
4200 61.01
4600 61.23
5000 57.50
Like Ventolin, I do not suspect Bekele could have approached 12:30 on this day. This was a very well executed race. Even splits. He saved just enough so that he wasn't redlining the whole way and could burn up whatever he had left in the last 200 without too much of a detrimental effect on the race. With absolute perfect pacing, I agree, 12:35+.
Someone show this video to Alberto Zal. Please, It may actually be of a lot of help to his pre-schoolers in Eugene.
watch the entire vid from 2010...I'd say it's good evidence that Al Sal has been trying to get his guys to run like Bekele for awhile now.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50Ioqrmwukwhe had a couple runners do ok at the OGs this year, so maybe he's on to something:)
