Is anyone else losing respect for Leo Manzano running around with the Mexican flag??

I'm not very patriotic, so I don't care much. I do think it's rather hypocritical of anyone on LR to mention it though. After all, the lot of you have been kissing Lagat's butt for years and he's a freaking Kenyan.

But I'll say this: I can't wait to tune in and listen to Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and the rest of those right-wing whackos. As a political moderate I rarely catch their shows, but it's going to be high entertainment when those conservative Republican nut-jobs get a whiff of this story! Looking forward to a total laugh riot!

Leo was not sent to the Olympics to represent Mexico. He was sent to represent the US. I have a problem with someone that lives in the US and takes advantage of the opportunities the country offers but has loyalty to some other nation. I don't like it. I don't hate Leo for it, I think he is a bad ass runner and I'm proud of him. I don't like what he did though.

Exactly! And since NBC's primetime coverage is so unwatchable I'm gonna check out FoxNews tonight. And then it'll be even more fun to watch Jon Stewart call them out on it in a few days.

True. I now love Mexico. This country would shut down with Mexicans and other folks from central and South America. Some agricultural county in Colorado chased out the immigrants from the farms. Then the farmers complained that they had nobody to harvest the crops because the locals wouldn't: 1. take the low pay 2. do the backbreaking labor. 3. hang out in the hot sun all day.

What is this, a marriage? A person can't have loyalties to the country that he currently lives in and spent most of his life, and also the country where he was born?

I don't think this gesture by Manzano effected the way he represented America in the slightest. He kept the US flag draped over his shoulders the entire time. Its as if he said "I am an American and proud to represent the USA in these games, but I also remember where I came from"

Fox News will profile this tonight, I guarantee it. They have been all over Gabby about her pink and silver leotards. She isn't "American" enough for the folks at FNC despite her father missing her Olympic performance because he is serving in the military and stationed in Afghanistan.

That would be even more questionable than what Manzano did, and yes, I would call an idiot an idiot if someone did something like that. At least Manzano was born in Mexico. Still though, if Lomong or Lagat get a medal, should we expect them to carry the flags of Sudan/Kenya around? I know Manzano has a strong connection to Mexico, but this is the United States after all.

However, the important thing right now is the great race he had. He's worked really hard for this and its a great day for him and U.S. distance running. Congrats to Manzano.
