Rupp won't medal. Let's get real here. Everyone can get off his D anytime now. A month ago everyone said they hated Rupp, now everyone is a fan. Typical American bandwagon fans.

He has to be ahead of Mo going into the straightaway or dead even, or else he won't be able to pass him. Ever notice how Mo is always in the perfect position (inside, a step or two in front) going into the straight? That's smart as hell. Salazar always said Rupp had more raw speed than Mo, people laughed their asses off, but now you're seeing it. Lagat will be fresh as hell too, so he's got a real chance. And these 2 Ethiopians are FAST (see Paris race). Nevertheless, I got:

1. Rupp 13:12.55

2. Farah 13:12.57

3. Lagat 13:12.87

Enjoy. Biggest upset in Olympic distance history, perhaps, Rupp winning the 5K. Let's do this.

I can see it buching up like the 10 but a couple of runners going down. Then it could be anyones.

Huh? Bekele clearly has had an off season...hell, an off few years.

Running a 12:46-7 with a 54-55 last lap is not something I can see Lagat, Rupp or Farah being capable of.

They are both young and may well have improved since then. Scary stuff.

The 10k WAS an incredibly weak feild, the weakest in several decades. The 5k is much stronger and Rupp would do well to snag a bronze.

Gebremeskel or Koech will get a medal. Mo and Rupp will get medals. Heck, I left Lagat out. Actually, if Bernard can somehow wait until 80 meters are left to hit his top gear, he can win.

Wild card: There is some team work for a fast past, to take the sting out of Mo and Rupp. But who is going to throw it down over the first mile? Probably no one.

U.S. 5K sweep? Should be 2 medals minimum.

The Pre Classic was a DL meet and it was pretty indicative of what we saw in the 10000 last year and this year. The Paris 5000 was quicker than the last few years because, unlike the last few years, the field kept the pace during the 3000-4000.

Only if you do not count Rupp and Farah. You just are not used to the alpha dogs not being from Eth or Kenya.

PR's? Season bests? That's crazy talk. Form doesn't matter.

Everyone knows the best way to prepare for the Olympics is barely race at all in the previous 4 months and then hope for a slow pace. It's LACK of form that counts.

None of the Americans has run more than two 5000's all year. Their SB's are WL + 12, WL + 25, and WL + 36. You can't demonstrate better lack of form than that.

Absence of data means a runner can do anything. Just like how you can get loans with no credit.

Obviously I'm joking. People that ignore form charts are idiots.

As far as comparing London 10k with other olympic 10 k 's this was not one of the better races/fields. While acknowledging that championship races tend to be tactical, London's winning time reflected the largest differential between olympic winning time and existing WR since 1968. The differential was 1:13.

inorder to win the 5k gold for kenyan and ethiopian, they should put the race in 62-63 for each lap and the american and britain will melt down.

other wise the 'older' guys from america and britain will have chance
