Good job catching my mistake on the foot correcting pronation, etc. Wrong words I have chosen and you put it well into perspective--that's closer to what I meant to say. Still, about the footstrike I don't know if I can agree. Granted, I need to learn a lot more about running but it seems pretty simple. Increasing stride rate comes in 2 forms: running faster all the time (generally accepted as bad training) or shortening your stride. The latter allows a heel-striker to strike more below the body (instead of out front) and seems to let the muscles do the work. I don't really see how a heel-striker can shorten their stride to land underneath them and still heel-strike (seems like I'd fall over). I certainly don't mean to split hairs or get in an argument but it seems like this ideology (minimalism, etc.) is advocating a change in biomechanics.
That said, I'm still learning and enjoying the switch so far. Got a pair of Zoom Waffle XCs and Neptune XCs on order to help me out. I've been running a lot in my Adistar Competitions (love these shoes!) to ease in. Every muscle below my knee has been sore for 2 weeks but I'm not quitting yet. High-heels are for women.
