The reasoning on chasing standards is doubly flawed in that the IOC requires the standards be met by July 8, not July 2, and if July 2 is the deadline that the USOC imposed on USATF, why can't athletes still chase the standard after their event is over, as long as that is still prior to July 2?

I didn't make the rules. I am just letting you know what the standard is. No chasing after your trials event is over.
If you ever want to know why T&F is dying, here's yet another example. How confusing is this for track fans to follow? Do you really think the average sportswriter can figure this out? How about the TV folks?
Much simpler - top 30 in each event qualify, marks up to a certain date, if those athletes scratch, then down the list we go.
It doesn't have to be this hard folks. Really. Let's get back to focusing on the competition and the beauty of the sport - in all events.

I believe Wejo wanted to use the word "then" and not "than" in the above sentence. I figure if a Yale graduate doesn't know the proper use of these basic English words, THEN a lot of you don't either.
The IOC processes the track team, the swim team, the whitewater canoe dance team, the judo players the equestrian team the shooting team thepolo team the archery team the rebound tumbling team, the baby girls with misshapen bodies team the archery team the volleyball team...at some point the need to process somebody trumps the needs of the "if I have not made the standard in the last year plus, maybe I can do it on thirty hours rest" guy.

So if German finishes 3rd at the Trials, but does not get the A standard a fourth place finishers with the A standard will go to the Olympics instead. To send three runners to Olympics in the 1500 all of the runners must have the A standard. The B standard was designed for smaller countries that can only get one runner into the 1500.
Why you have to go all Godwin on us?
I think everyone knows who is going to make the US 1500 team. It is most likely going to be three athletes that already have the A standard. Getting the A standard before the trial must be a big relief, and you can run without being overly tense.
