The first round of the 1500 is Thursday, June 28, ten days from today (Monday), so he still has a chance to get in three or four good workouts, which given his progress the last month is not insignificant.

3:37.8 is not "AKA" 3:38, and it's more than a second faster than his last race, and a second is significant at this level, and 3:37 is well under 4:00, and he never ran a 4:00 mile in high school, and this is a PR, and he hasn't been training very long so we could see big things this summer. He has been training for 3.5 years since his 3:55 indoors as a freshman. Is that not very long?
He ran a 4 flat 1600 as a 17 year old 4 years ago. Has he not been training since then?

He needs to switch to the 5/10 permanently. His 13:25 is a better performance than his 3:37 high, and it seems like he has a pretty big engine but not much more footspeed than he had as a frosh, and even on the American scene that won't do much these days. But a 13:0X 5000m will, and that's what he should be looking at trying to hit now.

his improvement curve is incredible when he's healthy, and he just has not been consistently healthy since freshman year. he's now been training for seven or eight weeks and dropping to 3:37 after never coming close to his freshman pr prior to the past month is pretty big news. People like MichaelMatthews were hammering him and Smith constantly, saying he'd never run well until he was gone from OSU, but he got it together. Now the question is how much more he can improve this summer. It would be very tough for him to qualify in the 1500m but maybe several more months of health will produce some very solid 1500m and 5000m times in Europe. But you have to be a pretty lousy person to disparage this performance for a guy who's kept at it through years of disappointing performances and injury problems.

This was his best 1500m time ever, his previous pr was 3:39.0 from freshman yr nationals. Unless you're saying his 2nd best performance behind the 13:25 5k. I still think this means he's close to being back, i doubt he's in the same shape he was in freshman yr. had he kept pushing for a time his freshman yr for a 1500 the way he's been doing this season he surely would have run close to the 3:35 A standard.
Hopefully he keeps improving and does well at the trials, making the final would be a big accomplishment for him this season. maybe he could pull at matt centrowitz but i don't think he has a 51 in his legs, 53/54 at best. Then next yr he'll get with Salazar and he'll improve a lot.
