You must be quite proud of yourself for being a real runner instead of all those fake ones you see running around out there. Its not the half "mary" runners faults if they are at the end of the race with you...if in fact that is the case and you are not a troll. That would be the fat of the race director. Your race and your running are not more important than they are.

I actually completely agree with everything you're saying. It is the race director's fault, and it isn't fair to anyone to have ten people running 6:00 pace weaving in and out of one hundred people running 12:00 pace-- especially when it comes to water stops, etc. I won't enter races like that-- there's enough to worry about in the last three miles of a marathon; finding a clear path to run shouldn't be one of them.
Oh, and if you think I'm a troll and that this stuff doesn't matter, watch the end of the Fargo marathon where Andrew Carlson gets his path blocked by two walkers finishing their half marathon.

Thanks for the suggestions. I should have specified that I was talking about the larger marathons. Obviously even when the small marathons have a half marathon with them there aren't enough people to really get in the way. I'm thinking more about Philadelphia and marathons on that scale.
How's Clarence DeMar? I've been thinking about that one as a nice alternative to the mega-marathons.
Clarence DeMar is a nice course and pretty fast. More downhill than up. I haven't done it since 2006. They're making a few course changes for 2012. I may run it.

Actually, I am, and it is the fault of the half marathoners for finishing in 2+ hours. It is the fault of the race director as well and the fact that they aren't taken into full greater consideration the safety of runners, the competition, prize money, and people going for time.
