LR Board Known as Idiot Board Among Running Elite

This board is the best thing that happened to me.

I would guess letsrun is also known as the idiot board in Dr Kip Litton's family.

We have heard many elites criticize this board. Brian Sell, Alberto Salazar, Alan Webb and on and on.

How many Elite runners have said LR is a great site?

That speaks volumes to what most think about LR.

Who cares what they think? I don't follow it enough to know, but do professionals in other sports (baseball, basketball, football, etc.) ever talk about how great they think other sports journalism outlets are? I think athlete/reporter interactions are generally more like this:

Do you think "journalism" is some sort of compliment" It just means something like "the investigation and reporting of events, issues and trends to a broad audience" (Wikipedia).

LR might not be the best for training ideas and what not, but it's a good source of up to date political and social commentary. Good to know how the heartland feels sometimes.

well..........i was in one of the hanson's shops in Michigan and i mentioned lets run to the employee and the response was that most of the people that post information about elite runners just make stuff up. it is difficult not to believe since the anonymity allows this. even people who are not in here to start and spread unsubstantiated rumors regularly post criticism of people having not even nearly enough information about their situation, whether it be personal, athletic, or financial. The webb posts are especially true in this regard.

This board is full of wanna be never was lying about being at one point elite athletes. I bet the average 10 K PR is 37:00-38:00 in reality and about 30:30 based on false self-reportage.

I do not see how elite athletes could not treat LR Board as a complete joke.

Letsrun.com is a little like The Daily Show. It's where I can find out about all the crazy sh\it Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly et al. are talking about without actually having to watch or listen to them. Of course, where Jon Stewart deliberately mocks them the mooks on Letsrun are dead serious as they regurgitate the batsh\it rightwingers' views as their own.

There are three good reasons to come to letsrun

1. Nearly immediate news/updates about nearly any running competition of significance, buttressed by many honest posts from eyewitnesses (e.g. the play-by-play of a race, rather than just the final times). I "watch" every major marathon by reading the play-by-play threads.

2. Links/videos of above races are nearly always posted if available.

3. Extremely good training information buried in here like needles in a haystack (10 years ago it was like golden eggs laying out in the sun). All the great threads that taught me what I didn't know are still here but buried under a ton of garbage (hint, look for the old Renato Canova thread and the old Hadd thread). If for some reason I wanted to train for the 400m, the information is here. I have learned a ton from this site.

I don't blame the elites for not coming here but I am a bit surprised that they even pay attention to threads about themselves. One of the best responses I ever saw on this site was when Amy Acuff came on and responded to several pages of harsh critcism with a very detailed post about her strategy at the Olympics. She kept it positive, explained her whole decision-making process, and thanked everyone for their support. The haters pretty much shut up after that. It was awesome to see someone come on during the Olympics and address the fans. Too bad that the haters have overwhelmed that.

I personally applaud Amy Acuff for coming on once and setting people straight.

The brothers will deny it, but this site is about traffic, aka money. If any of you were or are decent runners, why would you come on here?

I am a 15 plus 5k dude, nothing earth shattering and I can admit it as I don't have the talent to run 12:56 for 5000. When I first found out about this site, I thought "cool". Boy oh boy was I wrong.

If I were Ryan Hall, I wouldn't waste the time to even type in the website. He's a nice guy and one heck of a fast runner but because he hasn't run up to many poster's expectations, he gets grilled. With or without the wind, not everyone can run 2:03 and how many have? I'll take his 2:06 in London as someone who is very capable but may not have the perfect race every time....who does?

I have personally gotten more, a lot more, out of an email response from Brian Sell than the majority of crap I've gotten on here, which is why I don't post here often and come very rarely. I don't have hours and hours to sift through the garbage, looking for that golden nugget.

Post something about a certain runner or training and watch the trolls come out. I don't care if their pr is 20 for 5k or 14 for 5k, the garbage got old quickly and it comes from a lot of the same posters, I am sure of it.

I frequent other sites, non-running, and the BEST ones have registration and trolls don't last but one post as they are banned. One of them is the number one site on the net for the hobby that I do on the side (pen turning/woodworking) and they are doing incredible to say the least. Bonds are formed and people get to know one another. Here, it's your an a**hole and then it goes on and on. Change your handle and now you're a good guy/gal.

I was told that Malmo is George Malley. If that's true and he's not getting compensated for posting some many times a month, God Bless him for dealing with it. Hodgiesan is Bob Hodge. I believe he broke 2:11. People can learn from these guys but instead they have to have thick skin or just bail from a particular thread when they've had enough.

I read that Greg Meyer used to chime in, when? I haven't been here THAT long but I've never read a post by him. I've met him a couple times at the Crim and when he coached a Grand Rapids college. Super nice guy and full of great information.

For those reasons alone I would make it registration mandatory site, but it's not my site and I don't think that will ever happen. Heck, if I had $$$$ I'd make my own site and compensate top runners to chime in to questions once a month and no that's not like a blog as the interaction is minimal in those is minimal.

If this is true, who are you? I'm not doubting you at all, I'm just saying that you can have an email that is just for Letsrun then maybe someone will contact you with a question/compliment that might not be all that bad. Times like the ones you posted are impressive and not the norm.

I agree that letsrun is full of idiots. As well as non-idiots who behave like idiots because this is one of the sites where you can be an idiot anonymously and hassle-free.

I also think that the running elite are mostly idiots. Not in the sense that they are bad people, they're just not very bright. That goes for most of them anyway, of course there are exceptions.

So "Idiot Board" is a fitting tribute in many ways.

There is a big difference between the value of the Lets Run site and the general information available on the site, links to article, race videos, etc., and the the discussion board. The Let's Run site has lots to offer to someone interested in track and field. It is a great place to get quick access to lots of media on track and field. The discussion board is bottom feeder nonsense and rumor spreading. Some of it is good natured and funny and some is just mean spirited, malicious and astonishingly immature. I have never been on a listserv or to a discussion board that is not seriously moderated that is of any real use at all. When I have talked to people who are mentioned on here about what is on here about them they have always explained to me exactly what is wrong with the information about them that is on here.

If I did not get occasionally bored at work I would never come to the discussion board part of the site.

one reason why its so is because the moderators, hand picked by the site owners, themselves allow racial or stereotyping threads, but pull threads that might say something negative about the white race.

it is the racism(or general ignorance rather) of the founders themselves that I'm sure contributes to the proliferation of idiots on this board.
