Looks like Lalang didn't have the muscle to hang with that H.A.M. knows as Cam Levins!!

I'm pretty sure Cam Levins is mixed. Furthermore I'd guess that it's his mom who is black, but he could have a light-skinned dad. I have an afro-american mom and white dad, and I looked similar to Cam in my early 20s, same hair and all.
I think it's cool that he grows his hair out. I was always somewhat ashamed of my poofy afro-ish hair.
regardless, Levins has been talking huge chunks of his PRs every year - at least in the 5k and the mile that I know off. And has come up big in big races (NCAA xc). Someone more familiar might have info about 800 progress but I thinks its traveled from 1:51 to 1:49r (?). An this is still early in the Oly lengthened season. He looks to be (at the moment) in the pack behind Rupp (less speed/finishing kick), who is several thin layers behind the really big boys (the '51ers' of the harder paces. Be that as it may he is an exciting young man who has great potential to make some noise. His mileage tells me how serious / dedicated he is. I look forward to future efforts. There have been others in the past who make big jumps coming off similar type of training regimen. We not talking a soft schedule here.... for 2-3-4--yrs. Plus (and I prob don't need to remind - the training in at the altitude sweetspot, 5833ft' high enough for excellent altitude benefit but low enough not to make workouts - runs doable. Speed/interval/repeat work is just right - almost perfect constellation of training elements. The only part I'm unsure of is whether or not he has teammate/runners to help with the training. Going solo can be trying. I that is thin and were i the coach I would figure out a way to get some help with that . This kind of thing only comes around infrequently - unless the 'Levin's factor' And I can't imagine there not being one and that it is attracting in blue chip athletes. Carpe Diem. Jan launch into next levels Cam per and have other coming in with similar /same expectations The climate right the stars are aligned the warriors are hungry and the sport years for it. Remember
recruits terd to sign on in groups of two sometimes three.
Seems to be ripe for the pickin if someone sees what in fron of them
OK you are smart but stoned but here is the thing: Levins is the closest thing to "Once A Runner" (trite as that novel and it's paradigm may be) as there is on the world scene right now. He is a hero for all of us who have struggled against the gifted talent that is world class off a modicum of mileage/effort. He gives it all and more and actually is harvesting what we could not. He is our flag.

canadian 5k record is what ? wrote:
Is the Canadian 5k record really 13:14? I thought Sullivan ran 13:10 at one point. . . memory's failing me, I guess.
Best of luck to Levins- seems to be an exciting time for our Northern neighbors. Between Levins, Gills, Coolsaet, Wykes, and Watson, they've got a good crew of guys putting in the work and running well. I saw Nate Brannen ran well at Mt. SAC too.
Don't forget about Milne- he ran in the Mt. Sac mile as well, I think he and Brannen took 2-3, in 3:54 and 3:55. I don't know the AC mile standard, but I assume 3:55 is under the cut, or very close to it. Milne holds the Canadian 2k record as well- 5:01 and change.
As for the Canadian 5k standard, the A+ is 13:19.62.
There is no mile standard. Milne and Brannen were also off A standard with their 1500 splits in the race. Both need A standard to go to the Olympics this year. B standard won't count for them since they've already made a World/Olympic team.
Love it

Seconded. I have the same background as you, and looking at his pictures Levins could be my brother. It's actually kind of crazy.

He said that he is running the 10,000 next week. It will be interesting to see (who knows, could he break the Canadian record), but at the same time it could totally destroy his legs. For the high caliber guys (unless they take "vitamins"), it sometimes takes a month to fully recover from a good 10,000.
The 1500m would have been way safer...
10000 record will be tough 27:23 Bairu
Let's put it on the front page!
