My boy Kip doesn't even seem to have started the race. WTF?

I went out slow, 6:30 miles. Everyone passed me. Tried to be rigorous, every mile two drinks of gatorade and a cup of water on the head. Half was 1:26. Finished in 2:51. Passed a lot of people at the end. Seemed like a lot of people went out hard and bonked. Strategic race.

Nobody flopped as bad a Zachery D. Rymer. He predicted a sub 2 hour race in his article. Now old Zach looks like a complete fool to all the running world.

Ran today,

The one guy I know who ran well is a really great masters runner/coach who used his HR to keep it even. He ran 2:49 and got 3rd age group.

I went out according to my plan and absolutely blew up. Awesome experience, my legs seized up and I did a flip at mile 24, then 2 guys from the crowd came out and stretched me out, so I could get up and power walk it to the line.

All others I know had melt downs to greater or lesser degrees. Mine was severe missing my mark by some 40 mins. Oh well, it was an awesome experience and I think myself and many others are glad to have finished

Bonking does traditionally refer to fatigue from glycogen depletion in a marathon or triathlon. It has no Latin roots as it is an onomonopia. Also known at hitting the wall. See:

More and more, I'm realizing how incredible Brendan Martin's performance was. Debut marathon and 23 years old??

This guy was probably in 2:17 shape, yet took a step back and realized that was not possible with the conditions. Then he came back and reeled in a lot of people better than him.

We actually got a good look at him right before heart break and he was the only elite that looked focused, relaxed and ready to roll.

Top Masters (over 40), Senior Masters (over 50) most

were 5 to 10 mins. slower over the 2nd half.

Even people from Hawaii who are used to the heat and humidity

were 15 to 30 mins. slower than their qualifier.

Yes, these people may have run slower....but how did they do in their age group? That is the real test...not the time. You are racing your competition, not the clock.

Yep, friends were having a hard time. Some dropped out. For me, once it gets over a certain temperature I start slowing down.

buddy was out well first 10k (43 mins, ~7+ pace) just trying to hit 3 hour pace thru half and try to come back the last half and flirt with sub 3. last 5k was 44 mins, so a minute slower than his opening 10k. roughly 14:10 pace per mile. struggle city.

I don't get what's so tough about running in hot weather. It's that cold crap that sucks. I went all out from the start gunning for a PR. Only missed it by a minute and 40 seconds. Everyone I know that ran it did awful though.
