No way. The Olympics isn't the only thing that matters in running. It's not even the hardest race. These diamond league races are often better than the Olympic finals. An Olympic medal is highly overrated when determining someone's greatness.

He would. The best people that Kenya had to offer were in the Olympics, and he beat them. What makes you think he wouldn't have beaten them at the Pre Classic Kenyan 10k. Olympic and World Championship medals have a ton of meaning. It shows you have beat the best people those countries have.

The Olympic 10,000 was a jogfest and the Kenyan OT 10,000 was an honest race. What's Rupp's record in major international races going at an honest pace? Nada.

It makes me wish Athletics Kenya would give monetary awards for time and not just place at championships. A guy like Soi is probably capable of 12:46-12:49, but he will go home to humiliation and inquiries if he takes the pace and blows up. Meanwhile, if he does a guaranteed-loss-to-Farah sit-and-kick, he gets 2nd or 3rd, a nice cash reward from AK and a parade in Eldoret/Iten.
Rop might try it. He will be Bahrain's hero no matter what he does.

Although he is an excellent runner with perhaps unprecedented range, Rupp is nowhere near the GOAT in the 10,000.
If neither raced again after today, Lagat would be among the 10 most-remembered names in the sport, period. Rupp would be one of dozens of forgotten medallists.
