Para 4 - Thank you for your consideration

Show your respect for the team and coaches by delivering the letter in person 10 minutes before the start of practice. Be humble, but don't mumble; speak up. Look the coach in the eye, hand him the letter, "Coach _____, I apologize for my disrectful actions and language on ___day. Turn to the team, look them each im the eye, and apologize for disrespecting them. "Ì hope Coach ___ and this team will give me another opportuniy to both give yot the respect you deserve, and earn your respect by contributing to the success of this team. Thank you." Turn and walk away.

Two sides to every story:

you pissed of the coach because you kept up with his star runner? Yeah, right.

If you tell us the truth about why you really pissed off the coach, then we might be able to give you some guidance on how to fix things, but your story is one-sided nonsense.

Sounds like a troll, but a troll inspired by a real story. You and the coach don’t get along; doesn’t matter why -- your impertinent; he's incompetent. Who rallly cares. You follow letsrun and understand tempo runs and know how to push, which means you know more than 75% of the HS coaches and 20% would feel threatened by you. If you transfer you likely sit out of a year. NFHS rules are there to protect the coaches, not the athletes. It’s not fair if you have a j*** of a coach, but welcome to life under the NFHS. So, if you’re an elite runner, consider college invites. Join an “open” club team in your area -- you run mostly with post-college athletes and marathoners, but the coaching is generally better. Run college invites under club team / unattached. You can’t run the major HS races (Penn, Arcadia, etc.), but the college invites are faster anyway. Move on to the national HS races (NBON, NXN, Junior Nationals, USATF, AAU) at the end of the season. I’ve seen only upperclassman take that route after two or three years of training – some great runners going back as far as I can recall (15 years) have done it. Seems to happen to several runners every year. I’ve only seen runners in the 4:20 / 9:30 or better range try it. You’re right at the cutoff and you’re only a sophomore, so you make the cut. But running with adults as a HS sophomore is a very tough grind. No glory -- you gotta do it because you have the talent and you love to run. It's gotta be a passion. Not a lot of fun unless you’re really dedicated to the sport. Only know of 1 runner that has done it that young. It’s tough. If you're not an elite runner, move down to the second or third tier college invites, or run the USATF meets as an intermediate or junior. Otherwise, choose another sport or apologize to your coach (and give up on running). Good luck.

Oh sure, the op MIGHT be a fairly accurate account of the events that led to munkeypoo getting kicked off the team, and maybe no more detail is necessary. But we both know that is HIGHLY unlikely. There are always at least two sides to the story, and in this case I find it quite suspect that an otherwise perfectly respectful, hardworking kid who can run sub-2:00 as a freshman would be kicked off the team for nothing. No, there is more going on here that munkeypoo has conveniently omitted from his tale of woe.

My advice: Eat some humble pie and apologize if you want to compete with your team this year.

He’s definitely leaving a lot out, but who really cares? He doesn’t need to embarrass a coach just to seek some helpful advice from the running community. Don’t want or need the sordid details on how unbelievably incompetent or insecure the coach really is. If the runner’s at fault, if he’s immature, if he’s some prima donna that spinning a story, then he needs to apologize, grow up, and re-join the team. If the coach is at fault, if he’s on a power trip, if he’s incompetent, then follow the advice of many here. Either transfer or join the college ranks, or do both. Don’t fight the system – not worth it. You can’t win. There are 2 runners running for Pac-12 teams this year that went the college route last year. It works for the right athlete. I’ve seen too many athletes re-join their authoritarian coach and go nowhere. If you have the passion, go for it.

#1 - This is a lame topic and you sound like a biotch.

#2 - Don't write anything to anyone.

#3 - Have your parents raise hell. That means meetings with the Asst. Principals, Principal, Ath. Director, School Board Members, PTA President, Superintendent, etc. Make sure that they call, no emails, no letters, calls. Lot's of them.

#4 - If all of the above is to no avail, then have them call the above and talk about law suits.

That's the way it really works, it's not about right or wrong, just mitigation of damages. The Coach will not quit and if he does there are 1 million teach-for-america kids to take his place, so as long as your 'rents go hard at the above officials they will fold.

Do not compromise, you can get everything you want and give nothing in return.

(Note: This sounds crappy, but ask enough coaches, school officials; law suits suck and teachers are easy to hire/fire in most states.)

This kid needs to learn to grow up. In the real world, you do things you don't really want to, but you have to because that's just the power structure in order. He needs to apolizige to the friggin' coach. Doesn't matter if you're wrong or right; at the end of the day, you're the one whom poessesses the ultimate truth. Besides, the kid has some decent speed. I'm sure the coach will come around.

The problem with the OP's troll attempt is that it wasn't exaggerated enough. Someone posts something like that on here about once a week in complete honesty.

About a year ago, a kid I know who had just graduated and turned 18 decided to troll people by posting he'd gotten married on Facebook. His post was clueless and fatuous and several other "...ous", but people believed him - because he was PRECISELY THE KIND OF PERSON who would get married suddenly for horrible reasons. And so, the OP fails at trolling because he's just like the kids and bitter coach hating, "I could have run 4:12 and gone on to Stanford if it wasn't for my coach telling me what to do" former kids that populate LetsRun

That's why the above trolling attempt is so much better. Better written, more data, confident tone. It's an excellent effort at mocking the self-importance of so many distance runners.

It's so good, in fact, that I'm not sure that endorphinrush even realizes he's trolling...

On second thought, I'm pretty sure endorphin rush knows he's trolling.

The only real weakness is the lack of a Pre reference.

Not sure what you're deal is, but you do have a referential problem. Is "he" meaning OP or me? Am I the troller, or do I just not realize that OP is trolling. Either way, still don't know what your deal is ... but don't really care either.

Mildly perceptive, with an emphasis on mild. Switch self-importance of coaches for runners and you might not be too far off, although admittedly that was the entire point. (I seriously have got to get you in a poker game ...)

So, if you understood the mocking part, guess you don't like the message. VP of an NHFS affiliate, ne? Apart from OP's issue, why does the NHFS discriminate? Home-schoolers, transfers, etc.? If OP's real (not so presumptuous to say he's a troll, but don't really care either), then he should run as fast as he can away from that coach – while the coach is fading into the twilight and screaming to slow down. If what he says is accurate, he has far better options than apologizing.

Better reading comprehension is needed. The OP didn't say he got kicked off the team because he beat the coach's favorite runner. He admits to having lost his temper in an argument with the coach about missing practice due to an injury. That fact that he beat the coach's pet is given as a motive for the coach being unreasonable about said missed practice situation.

Maybe most of you guys have only had wonderful, mature coaches in your career. But those of us who have seen the exact opposite up close and personal can easily imagine a scenario like this.
