The right leg really looks like it's coming in over the midline to me. Btw I chose this clip because (1) I notice it more when he is running slower, so I tried to find a U.S. championship race, (2) I notice it more from head on, so I was trying to find a nice long view of that.
LANCE IS A PORKER.
He looks like an old man.. reminds me of the YouTube video where Chris Lieto (world-class Triathlete) jumps in a workout with Ryan Hall and Josh Cox.
Ryan Hall looks like a runner; Cox like a collegiate; and Lieto just looks like a fish out of water.
His form looks very good to me, efficient, no wasted energy, which efficient stride rate. Very good form.
On the negative, he is quite a bit overweight, especially in the gut, around his diaphragm and entire upper body.
He looks very tight. His body is tight and his stride is tight. It looks like he couldn't go much faster than he did.
It's possible that "Industree" is the worst poster in LetsRun history, and that's saying something.
Lance is 5'11, 160ish. Porker? If he were walking down the street, 99% of American would say he's "too thin." And Lieto didn't look as good running as Hall and Cox? Really? What a shock! ALL HALL DOES IS RUN, YOU MORON! Lieto rides and swims, therefor he shouldn't look the same as a pure runner. How stupid are you? That's like throwing Hall on a bike and making fun of him for not looking as good as Lieto--NO S***!!!
Average IQ for this board: 80. Without "Industree" it goes up to 85.

Yeah my 350 pound 5'6 neighbor would say that lance is too skinny. He doesn't compete in triathlons though.

Yeah of course that is true. Put non-cyclists in with a bunch of cyclists and the non-cyclists would look out of place too.
But the bottom line is that Lance is rocking tris.

Very good clip. If I could put it into QuickTime, I could try to give a more detailed opinion, but it's still a nice angle and clear shot, so see if my eyes are picking up the right things. At around 3:00, Lagat begins to swing out towards lane 2 and runs on the lane line for a few steps. As you said, he appears to come very close to the midline of his body. If there were a string in the middle of the lane line, he looks like he could almost touch it with the inside of his foot. The other guy in the tri video would stomp on that string.
Even though his feet swing in a little, they don't seem to ever crossover. This video -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeE75Oj1lnQ - isn't straight on, but again gives the impression that both feet don't crossover, even when he's just jogging. The athlete in blue in the first video is giving a tremendous effort, but his stride pattern doesn't allow him to deliver a great deal of force through the ground like the New Zealander who runs by him.
Coaching high school, it's common to see kids with a severe crossover gait like the guy in blue. Some go all the way over to the other side of their body with the stance foot. It's very hard for that kid to be fast, and to stay injury free. The crossover is usually combined with a great deal of hip movement side to side and up and down. The arms also tend to swing more across the body and the elbows protrude out. Sometimes, even the head moves side to side for balance. Guys like Lagat (and Armstrong) have excellent strength in their glute medius and have minimal inefficient movement.
You obviously haven't competed with Lance. He is definitely "fat" for a triathlete. We just had Macca at the Running Event in Austin and got in a workout with the guys and he looks 10 times fitter than Lance and aren't they about the same age? Even Crowie looks fitter than Lance.

But gotta give it to him, he did survive cancer and he has done so much for this world. So, I will cease being harsh on him, but knowing Lance, he only wants the truth. I am sure he will come out on Twitter shortly and say he's fat.
Isn't this all irrelevant to the fact that he beat all but one guy and those guys have been training for these events for years?
I swear he could have won by 10 minutes and people would still be whining.

At the start of the clip, when the cameraman is running alongside, he has clearly just emerged from the transition area, and is taking his time getting used to the running motion, which in my experience feels awkward when you first climb out of the saddle. Later, he has clearly opened his stride up, and his cadence is just below 180 strides/per minute. When the camera is behind him , he looks to be running six minute pace or so.
As for the accuracy of the course, it must be said that Lance's marathon PR, set five or six years ago, is 2:46:42. A 1:17:00 half marathon, fresh, should be worth about 2:41 or 2:42.

Numbers don't lie. Lance is running something @ that 5:50 to get that 1/2 done in 1:17. His stride isn't the prettiest thing in the world, but it gets the job done and comes as no surprise from a guy with a major (understatement) biking background who's probably all sorts of tightened up from all those years in the saddle.
Strides for men and woman come in lots of different forms, with many high level female (see the two Chinese Olympic marathoners that placed on the podium in Beijing) runners employing very short, compact strides.
A teammate of mine has one of the most compact strides I've ever seen (and carries more muscle up top than any other sub-2:30 guy most anyone's ever seen) and has run 1:11 for the 1/2 and 2:27 for Boston.
Regardless of anyone's opinion about Lance's past, the dude has endurance like crazy and it shouldn't come as any surprise that even if he looks weird out there that he can still find some method to pound out a good time.
