Oh wait. That only works for nice smiley Africans. I think it was something about being so nice and smiley caused EPO to form in the A-Sample. It's tough for these guys being so nice and incapable of anything bad, particularly cheating in sport.

I'm so torn on the good guy thing. I've raced Fagan many times and through chatting afterwards and during warm downs I think he's a pretty cool dude. On the other hand I've lost hundreds of dollars in prize money to him (depending on how long this has been going on). Tough one. I wish him the best though and hope he gets through will this so he can move on with his life. Competing should be over though.

The penalty for a positive test needs to be increased to at least four years, but I would vote for seven.

Who have been your main training partners in this cycle?

AA: I trained with Martin Fagan (of Ireland). And also Ezkyas Sisay, who ran 2:11:04 at the New York City Marathon this year (for ninth place; Sisay is from Ethiopia). He was the guy who was helping me the last month and a half. We have a lot of great runners here in Arizona. You always have people to run with. We have the University of Arizona. We have Bernard Lagat in Tucson, who is always encouraging me and motivating me. It's always great to have a person like Bernard Lagat, who accomplished a lot in our sport and always believed in me and gave me a word of encouragement. The guy does not throw those words around easily, and he's been straightforward.

Wake up, they're all f. dirty....save the sport, drug test any money claimers at the biggies, like NYC Marathon, and Boston... otherwise you're enabling the drugsters.

Marathon of his life is obviously referring not to his PR, but to the last few years of his career compared to his performance today.

I know, but the fact that he has run so much faster should really wake people up. Today was great for Abdi, not all that shocking honestly.

Everybody makes mistakes, but intentionally doing something you know is wrong is not a "mistake", it is malfeasance, and reflects a moral turpitude.

If he did it either intentionally or through willful blindness, Fagan is not a "good guy"--he is an a-hole POS, regardless of whether or not he is your personal friend.

Eastern Europeans are caught all the time if they are doping. Don't understand your argument. How about Paula and her "amazing" marathon record? I bet it is the bagels that her rabbi suplies her. It makes her run so fast.

Fagan seems to be a very Jewish name. Irish? Don't think so.

I'm going out on a limb to say that 50% of the cheats would not dope if they knew for sure that everyone else is clean.

Part of it is that people get sold into the idea that a lot of others do it (which is bullshit). Part of it is people rationalizing that they need it to make up a deficit of talent. Coaches often play a big role, but not in this case.
