This has already been said, but these videos are old and Ovett Jr is a different athlete these days. That guy is also a lot older that Freddy there.
I don't understand why some people here are condemning this pickup ? The kid has run impressive times for a youngster off apparently little miles, moves beautifully, has the ultimate genes, a fantastic natural runners body and unheralded talent with loads of room for mass improvement. Vin has made an incredibly smart tactical move here. Ovett I think will be a force to be reckoned with in his last 2 years, with him learning and developing in his first two years. Much like wheating.

I dunno that they are condemning...but 1:52 and 4:00 isnt more than a walk-on at Oregon.
But that's the thing. Vin and any other person with athletic knowledge and experience can see right through those times and look at the raw potential that is Freddy Ovett. Vin is clearly looking down the line. Not straight away. Don't get caught up in stats, look at the while package.

The kid doesn't run 15/mile races seriously yet, at the moment he's predominantly an 8 runner, in fact that 15 was a one off race which he won with a huge last 150m (same race as his twitter display picture). He will learn and develop in his first two years and prosper in his last two. Just like his old man said, give him time. Go Freddy, I want to relive the old Ovett days!
At some point next year he could end up racing Ahmed Bile. Pretty cool.

Freddy is way overhyped and struggles under his Dad's shadow. He does have a very impressive style, but do not think he is undertrained. He was doing hour runs when he was 14, so there is no way in the off-season he runs 30m/w. I have no doubt he can run under 1.50, but he will never be elite. Additionally, his biggest problems are in his head and is not a good racer.
