Besides the honor of making the team and running in the olympics in the marathon, what are the Americans really competing for? The US marathon runners are way out of the medals in the event come London. Hall is our best chance and he might be 6th best at the olympics and thats because Kenya is limited to only 3 runners. So why is everyone freaking out about Ritz winnning/or not winning xc champs. The events we should really be focused on come London is the 10k, 5k, 1500 and 800. These events we have a chance at getting a medal in.
one thing about Ritz is that every once in a while he pulls some amazing shit out of his ass that absolutely baffles everyone and anyone watching. examples below:

03' NCAA xc champion 03'- try taking 40 weeks off with no running and only being able to run 10 minutes a day in late August, and still win NCAA's.. to me this was his best performance that is under appreciated.

Also, the London qualifiers will be Meb, Hall, and Ritz, in that order. Talent is shallow enough at the top that Hall won't take it out that hard, so Meb will stay on Hall and outrace him over the last few miles, especially since Meb is Gebbing into the best marathon shape of his life right now. Ritz will just chill with the chase pack, such as it is, and talent his way through.

Do I sense an almost fatal case of envy? I am NOT the subject of this thread, no matter how fascinating I am.
Ritz is the subject, and it does not look as if he will make the U.S. Olympic team in the marathon, which is really too bad for such a great talent. Ritz is essentially done as far as competing at the highest level, and this thread serves as a marker for this and also a tribute to a nice running career.
Do you think you could take the time to learn exactly what an ellipsis is and how it functions? I ask because based on your attempted usage of it in this thread, you are a bit lost. And while you're at it, what exactly is the basis of your prediction that Ritz won't make the Olympics in the marathon? That he ran 13:49 n the midst of a hard training week (three days before he ran a hard 22 miler)? As best as I can tell, that's the gist of your "argument." Please tell me you have something more; please tell me that you haven't pinned your argument on one race.

After 2:10 at London, Ritz struggled to get in shape in time for US trials, where he qualified in the 10000m in 2009, beaten easily by Rupp. Two months later he ran 27:22 to take sixth at World's, followed by 12:56 and 60:00 world medal in the next month. Ritz is coming off of injuries and infections and surgery layoff and when he stays healthy for even six months he gets very, very good. 13:49 now on the road, when he is training to maintain more like a 14:50 pace or 15:00 pace, and with almost two months to go, indicates that he will be very strong, if healthy, by Houston.

I like that Ritz has been running some faster 5k's. If you train like a marathoner and race short distances, marathon pace feels like cake. What I don't understand is when Hall runs half marathon tuneups at goal marathon pace.
