Are today's 12-28 year olds the worst generation the U.S. has ever seen?

Agree with you on Sweden, Switzerland. The rest of W.Europe - mmm...I don't think so. Unfortunately, the chances of gaining citizenship in N.Europe/Scandinavia is remote at best. Those counties aren't stupid and don't want other Euro and N.American trash and have created extremely high barriers for entry. Canada has become very anti-U.S. over the last 15 yrs. I know a number of Americans who were living there and were essentially "run out" of the country.

The slave holding generations were pretty bad.

The indian genociders were not so hot.

I actually think the baby boomers have been the worst generation. They are the ones who got our country into the financial hole that we are in. Its the young people who have to fix all the problems they created.

It's like if I tried to convert people to Christianity by saying "you'll burn in Hell if you don't". That's just stupid -- it makes people angry, it probably isn't true, and it serves no purpose but to inflate one's own ego.

I agree. The baby boomers, particularly the first half, have proven to be the most selfish group of people ever. They grew up in a time of access unheard of access to cheap education and decent working class jobs that did not require college and now they refuse to pay taxes to pay for these things for the youth today. The baby boomers are going to bankrupt us by insisting on unnecessary medical procedures that extend there lives further and further while they continue to insist that they have lower and lower taxes. Education and health care costs are going to continue to rise to levels that make it so more and more Americans do not have access. Kids in this country have little reason to be optimistic about anything. The boomers have had the government spending money for programs they wanted and benefited from since the early 1980s that they refused to pay for and now others will have to pay for their greed. The baby boomers will be known in the history books as the selfish generation.

Yes. I agree with this statement. It is the boomers, after all, who have held power in this country now for decades.

As to the OP. I am a high school teacher and coach. I notice very little difference in the kids that sit in my classes and run on my teams than I do with the kids that I sat in class with when I was in HS (mid 80s).

I'm going to follow up on this thought. Of the the teachers I work with, the ones most likely to bitch about the low quality of the students are the ones who offer low quality instruction.

To be sure, each of us bitch a little bit, but my collegues who bitch the most are the ones whose students are constantly outscored on benchmark and state testing.

Before we cast stones at others, we should look in the mirror to see if we are not casting stones at our own reflections.

"Ever" is a pretty long time. According to Ken Burns' documentary on Prohibition, by the 1830s, just about everyone (the men, anyway) was extremely plastered most of the time. That's not a very terrific generation.

According to one biography, one of the things that John Adams was struck by when he visited Paris was the lack of drunk children. Apparently he had become quite used to seeing inebriated kids on the street in the U.S.
