BYU vs. Portland-WCC drama?!

To advance to NCAA Championship, USF needs help from Iowa and Florida in taking top 2 in their regions, otherwise they are in trouble. Also, they can not finish lower than 6th with Stanford, Arizona, Washington, Oregon, and California in front of them. They are dead if UC Davis finishes in front of them.

A friend's son, a 9:18 runner, was considering UP. He was promised some schollie money, if he made the top 7 for XC.

USF was good but not outstanding at Wisconsin, plus the Inter-Region Bubble Buster in Ohio in September, but still, they have scored some points for the at-large bid by beating some good teams there. Beating BYU at conference will be huge because BYU isn't in the West Region. At regionals if USF finishes 6th it will be close but if they perform big and beat a team ahead of them, they should be a for sure shot to regionals. It will be tough though with those teams from the pac 12 that are ahead of USF that are so good.

Us Westcoasters are surprised as well

No way LMU men should be even in the top 5, they finished 4th last year and with BYU coming in and their terrible form this year I imagine they will finish bottom three at best. They have a terrible coach who peaks them for the first two races and then watches as his whole team falls apart and gets injured

What the hell are you talking about? Regardless of the fact that Portland may have more scholarships to devote to distance runners than some of the other top schools, they have historically out performed teams with more talent and better high school credentials. The fact that a program has more scholarships to offer than another program doesn't mean shit when more talented runners are willing to walk on at Stanford, Wisconsin, Oklahoma St., Oregon, etc. instead of taking a scholarship to go to Portland. So no, just because a program has more money to offer doesn't mean it should be guaranteed to trophy at Nats every year, give me a frickin break.

Entirely disagree. LMU has actually never looked stronger. Not sure what results your looking at (tho pre nats was ugly) but you need your eyes checked. Stanford they beat both USF AND Santa Clara...

after clicking your name and seeing the last name in your email address.... didn't you used to run for them? I don't see you on their roster any more... maybe indication of some bitterness? Can you beat any of those guys? Or are you just grumpy?

Sorry pal, you can't argue that they aren't fully funded and then find our that they pretty much are as fully funded as it can get for distance, and then claim that they can't get top recruits. Tell that to Dunbar. Weak stuff.

Before Dunbar what top recruits did they get? They were filled with guys like David Kinsella who were 9:10 to 9:20 runners. And the only reason they got Dunbar is that is father was Connor's roommate in college.

Well since you picked Kinsella. A quick google search netted me this info. Please note his national rankings and his 2 mile time. Not exactly a 9:10 to 9:20 guy. I also hear Kipchumba was pretty good before he arrived in Oregon.

Regardless of whether or not that is Thomas Finnigan and whether or not what he says will be true this year, LMU will still beat USD, SMC, and Pepp

THOMAS! That's the one. I saw the T and just couldn't remember... heard some rumors of training for the olympics. But from what i have heard stress fractures and losing to most of the LMU top 5 during track and xc don't bode well... sad. That weston strum could make almost anyone wanna drop out of a race.

USF beating Iowa and Florida is huge because they have the best chance of any school USF has defeated at Wisconsin of qualifying for NCAA Championship. The Toledo race didn't help USF at all in qualifying to NCAA Championship. Beating BYU at conference absolutley does not matter. USF has already beaten BYU.

As stunning as it has been to see dialog on the WCC on letsrun, it is still disappointing to see no WCC in the letsrun conference poll.
