This might go against conventional wisdom, but I bet it doesn't fill up as fast as people expect. None of the big fall marathons have been run yet, and 25000 people who ran last year's fall marathons already got to run it. I think that is one reason they made the sign up in Sept and not in December, to allow people who missed it last year a chance to get in.
Remember for the 2010 Boston it took two months to fill, not 8 hours, so I bet it might not even fill before the end of the month.
So do we know how many are signed up now?
It looks like Boston is well over 4,000 people registered on the 20+ minute group. This group represent the smallest of the qualifying groups. Another 12,000 to 12,500 will register Wednesday and it will fill up early on Friday morning. Lots of people got burned last year and will be waiting at their computer keyboards for the registration to open up.

So take this crap back to RunnersWorld, where it belongs.
Isn't there an elite forum you can go to on your own?
I'm already in the entrants list, so it appears that its first come-first served, not fastest in first. But since only 4000+ have registered in the BQ-20+ category that should really matter.
Next year will be even less since a BQ-20 in 2012 is a BQ-25 in 2013, but I'm an old fart now and hopefully I'll still be able to do that...
so, slower runners who aren't sure if they will get in will also receive crappier hotel rooms and worse plane tickets. that's exactly how it should be.
Speaking of hotels. I have previously stayed in Boston and bussed out to the start. Have any of you fine posters stayed out near the start? If so, where and how do you get into Hopkinton? thanks.

And smart people have had their hotel rooms booked well before today's registration date.

Last year, I waited until Wednesday after the registration. All the hotels opened up with cheap rooms because all the people that got shut out on Monday canceled them. There will be rooms available once registration closes and everyone is told if they are in or not.
FYI-I got a nice room at the Hilton Back Bay, right next to the finish and expo by waiting until people dropped out.

Just curious, how much did you pay per night for that hotel? I was looking for anything within 3-4 miles of the finish and there are few options less than 200/night. What's the best budget friendly option?
The people who have done 10 or more in a row and -20 are in. I think there are about 400-500 streakers and I bet most of them would register so only about 3500 or so under 20 minutes have probably registered.
I'd guess the under 10 minute crowd won't have any problems registering on Wednesday.
24 hours after registering, I got my confirmation email indicating my registration had been accepted.
~5700 confirm number @ 10:02am
well over 9k at the end of the first day for the -10 folks
