Time to refresh this thread.
Seems to me like Mick knows what he is doing and the pollsters are slowly picking up on that. However, it will be a tough race next week with so many really good teams. BYU, Indiana, Oklahoma, Colorado and Stanford all have really good teams (in addition to the Wisconsin/OSU 1-2) and that is not to discount another half dozen more that might place higher in a more normal year.
Wisconsin's hold on the number one XC team is probably stronger when this year is taken into the calculus, with a likely high finish here while Arkansas and Oregon stay home.
Any thoughts on the current class of high schools seniors in WWI?
i am friends of one of the best runners in the state and he knows where he wants to go. good academic school.
Wisconsin has the weakest 6th and 7th men among the contenders. They are an Elliot Krause scenerio away from falling outside the top 5. next year's team will be outside the top 10, as they only return Reed,Mohammed and Mav from their top 5, unless they recruit a futsum or another xc specialist.
Brice was with the lead five through 6km at Regionals and close through 8km. At that point he dropped back some but whether that was due to an inability to keep up or a strategy choice to save him for next week, I do not know. If the latter, then he might even keep them in first if Girma does not run. There will, however, be a greater spread than 0.1 seconds, the Regional differential from 1 to 5.
Byrne:
"They haven’t run one of their top guys yet. I know Coach (Dave) Smith from Oklahoma State has said that he’s not running, but they probably have a few tricks up their sleeve for next weekend. So we’re expecting that he probably will run."
Yes, Meister is going to Duke.
