Found another spelling for one I previously listed:
Lyudmila - making an ugly name (Ludmilla) even uglier
Ludmilla is a Russian name, and the Lyudmila spelling is an attempt to recreate Russian pronunciation in English. It usually backfires as people say "lyood-milla" instead of "(soft l)ood-milla" but this is typically a case of somebody wanting their (admittedly horrible) name pronounced correctly.
And how did a thread on ugly girls names end up being a debate on the political orientation of incarcerated minorities? This might be a winner, even by letsrun standards.
-1 on the Gretchen, I like that name.
My aunts names all fit the bill, Ethel, Edith, Florence, Muriel, and Dorothea.
totally agree on Gretchen, would like to add the names Fawn and Josephine to the discussion
Placentia.
the interesting question is why people think certain names are ugly. There is probably no way of objectively decide what names are ugly and what names are not. This is contrast to
running where the clock is an objective way of deciding who is the best runner. Now, it probably has to do with status
in society. The names of rich people are rarely ugly and as
new names are gaining popularity among upper-class people,
these names trickle down and after a decade they have become
popular in the middle class. The upper class then starts a new cycle of popular names and it goes in waves.
Grizelda is pretty rough.
Anyone said Shirley yet? or Phyllis?

And just a few more (with apologies to some I know with these names):
Claudia
Luba
Margaret
Madge
Maggie
Maggie is my favorite girls name!
Gretchen Eastler is a wonderful young lady therefore the name is not ugly in my book.
Eastern Europe is full of em

I read somewhere re: the popularity of names that vowels sounds are in vogue. Therefore names like Olivia and Jessica are considered pretty while gutteral names like Gertrude are the bottom of the barrel.
I've known both an Olga and a Gretchen. Two of the finest ladies I've ever met. I mean, it was hard to concentrate on behaving normally around them they were so hot. Also, someone mentioned Adrienne, that's a pretty decent girl's name as well. The guy's spelling is Adrian. My two cents here.
Genesis
Nevaeh (Heaven spelled backwards)
Liberty
Jefferson
Reagan
Wren
Aspen
Dakota
Caymen
Tumeric
Montana
Paris
Apple
Olive
Bailey

Cue psycho-racist poster who likes to use -esha
Are you saying that only White girl names can be ugly? What a racist.
The worst has gotta be Blanche FTW!!
All of these names sound like they are 80-100 years old.
Marissa is a more modern name that I find disgusting.
to the OP and some early posters...the one gretchen i knew was a smoking hot runner that ran for a U of O team that were national champs in the early 80's. she is still smoking hot.
