His race wasn't over. Not even close. I don't know why half the board here thinks that a race isn't worth finishing if you encounter any sort of hiccup that costs you time or makes you have to adjust your expectations on the fly. This attitude makes every form of adversity insurmountable. That push should have cost him two seconds at worst. Maybe he could or maybe he couldn't have caught Merga. We'll never know, will we? What a memory to take into Worlds with you.

I'm curious whether he was forced into the rail and stepped off to avoid tripping or if it was a real shove, but regardless I'd like to see him step back on and finish. Yeah yeah he's not going to get a good time or place, but there are psychological gains from working hard in the face of adversity. Solinsky seems to thrive on that stuff.

I can't tell from the video what happened to Chris, but he definitely was not pushed by Merga; however, his body did appear to be jolted before he went off the track.

Although no one likes to see a DNF unless you are injuried, under the circumstances I think he made the right decision to let this one go. keep in mind that this is not a H.S. or college meet or evan a championship, in a DL race, it is about time and place and niether of these was probably going to happen. Also, perhaps you can get back into a 5K if a fall happens early in a race, the pace is slow, you are racing against athletes your equal or less, but with 2-3 laps to go at 62s per against that type of field, I have default to Chris knows what best for him.

With that said, I personally would have liked to see Chris finish the race no matter what place he got, you need a couple of hard efforts leading up to championship.

I love the girls saying they would have started shit with Merga after the race! Really? I'd bet not, and if you did it would be a pathetic slap that would do nothing more than set the sport back another 20 years when ESPN showed it and the entire country laughed at you.

That's how you handle that shit.

After watching the video it seems obvious that Merga cut in on Solinsky who then gave Merga a little shove forward. A few moments later, Alamirew, who was running alongside Solinsky, retaliated for his countryman by giving Solinsky a shove to the inside while he speeded by so as to not be detected by the officials. Very lame tactics. Rupp beat Merga a couple of weeks ago in Birmingham. I wonder if Rupp's fall was truly accidental after seeing Solinsky's encounter.

Here's an idea. Interview each one and ask them what happened.

I forgot to mention that I saw the race live streaming on Italian television and it was clear that Solinsky was shoved to the inside. He had given Merga a pretty hard shove about 50 meters earlier, so that must have ticked off Alamirew.

just watched on Universal--while Solinsky stumble leads one to believe that CS was pushed--i simply do not see it in the video--is it possible he just stumbled (hit the rail) and out of frustration related to what clearly happened 50 meters before, just stopped?

the bottom line is that he should not have stopped. Do you think the WChamps is going to be any less physical?

review the photo sequence and look watch solinsky's feet relative to mergas - he's not faking it. merga simply pushed into solinsky's territory as chris was angling for the turn. you can see his right foot winding up against the rail as a result and as his left foot hits the ground inside the rail, he has his face in a bush. merga could not have timed that move better
