Centrowitz entered in Paris 1500!!

I know it goes against the grain at LRC, but let's think about this logically for a second or two:

Centro ran 3:36 a couple of years ago. Given how amazing (and I do mean amazing- arguably the most impressive 1500m WINS we've seen from an American collegian in years) he looked at NCAAs and USATFs, why would we not think he is on a whole different level than he was when he dropped that 3:36? Ie, there is every reason to think he can and will PR, and PR in a fairly big fashion. The kid is hot, the pace will be rolling, and he runs relaxed and composed beyond his years. Unless freakishly hot weather conditions, no reason to think the race won't be won in 3:30ish, and I think the kid is in the 3:33-3:34 range and mixes it up with some big boys.

Let's keep in mind how easily he beat Lagat at USATFs. I know Lagat ran the 5k, but come on... Lagat is still a 3:32-3:33 guy even when he is no longer focusing on the 1500.

That is all. Should be fun to watch all of the Americans.

centro did not beat lagat because he is faster. he beat him because he did not back down. the only reason lagat even wins races is because he puts on that extra gear and people like chirs solinsky just go "okay you can have it kip."

watch races with El Gourraj and Lagat everytime lagat tried that kenyan 100 El G would just keep fighting and win every time.

americans need to stop letting old kip get in their head, the guy is past his prime and only has a 100m kick to use in races.

I would not set a limit on his potential, as smooth as he flows.

Wheating is overstriding and it is braking his momentum.

Wheating's problem is he hangs back too much and often runs in lane 2/3. At these kinds of paces - single file is mandatory.

I'd like Wheating, for once, to go out in front and and be a front runner. See how that works for him.

I agree that Centro is gonna get blazed on this one. Boy amongst men on this one.

Centrowitz has shown he is very capable in tactical races. He obviously has a fantastic kick off of a very slow pace, and runs smart when the field is bunched up for 1200. At USA's he was in a great position at the bell.

If the Paris field were to go out in 2:06 or something, I think Centro would be right there near the end. He closed in 51 or 52 at USA and I don't think the top Africans can close that much faster. The problem is Paris will go out in 1:53-1:55, so it will not be a test of who has the best kick after a 1000-meter jog, it will test who has the best kick off of a solid early pace. Depending on whether they really follow the rabbits or not, I think the winner will run 3:29-3:31. Centro will run near the back, as he probably should--I'm not sure he's ready to come through in 1:54. When they move with 400 he will not be able to cover it. I think he will hit the B standard easily, and flirt with the A standard. But to think he'll actually be in this race is insane.

2 years ago he came through in 155.7 when he ran 3:36.9. He's closed in 1:50 on more than one occassion. Has not lost in almost a year of outdoor track. C'Mon Son???? http://www.youtube.com/user/edlover4real He will be in there!

Are you a member of the Centro family? Beacause your statement above is completely ludicrous and insane. Even the American runners in here aren't concerned with Centrowitz. If this race is run/won in 3:30 fashion he will be all out to get to 3:35.

Exactly where he wanted to be. And to all the naysayers on this board - EAT THIS!

Manzano looks like he could do really well in a similarly-paced race with a heck of a lot less people. His positioning and kick looked really good today, even though he only got 6th. Even Lagat could not get his standard position right off the leader's right shoulder today.

In the end, this race had way too many people, but at least everybody got the "A".

I believe the US has 3 A standards for every distance race.

This is a perfect example of a couple clueless LR posters, of course it is always expected of Coach d (to be clueless, that is). Centro got some more international experience, finished in the middle of the pack, got the A standard, and he beat a bunch of highly regarded North Africans in the process. Far from getting his "as blazed" he, did belong and now he is ready to race (now that the A standard has been met).

Nelson has the A, but Acorn and Huling have the B unless there was a recent time that didn't make T&F News' list. One of them will have to go under 8:23.10 or Huling stays home.

Matt was expected to get 3;34 or so but his 'monster kick' was absent, because the pace was a lot more legit than that 3:47 jog at nationals. So Centro won't have the kick to hang with a real group of racers in a fast race, and he will be outkicked by the many at Worlds who can pull an honest pace.
